Milestone #2 - woohooo

Hi all
during the easter break, I was able to take the 3 normal working days off work, and get the 11 day break, during which time I reached what I consider the 2nd milestone in 5EXi build and that was drop down day!!!
(1st milestone for me is getting the engine fired up)

Taking the car off the trolleys and setting it down onto it wheels for the first time.

Glad to see you're making progress.

On a side note, Marlin really crank the 1.8t forward in their installation! Do they modify the sump and oil pick up too?

It is a bit deceptive but the angle of the engine is the same as was in the donor. So no change to oil pick up is needed.

Really? I thought Marlin cranked all their installs forwards these days, to straighten the shafts, and improve the balance. Certainly all the 1.8t VAG cars I've modified had the long flat top edge of the cam cover near enough horizontal.

Im not aware of any change in the engine angle.
The oil will drain out of the sump plug, the bottom of the oil pan is parallel to the ground. and the cylinder block is vertical. I am not expecting any problems here.

Hopefully there will be no problems.

To ensure I'm not going loopy, I've checked pictures of the cars I've worked on, and the 1.8t block leans backwards in all instances.

Hi Steve.

Going great guns there. Won't be long!

After the Rover engine experiences and popping driveshafts, when fitting this engine, wanted to make the driveshafts as straight as possible. Also the engine angle as near as the donor. Had lots of problems with popping driveshafts even with the engine at a "tipped" angle. Tried different models of Rover driveshafts. Ended up, Marlin had changed the engine mounts that fixed the problem.

But if Marlin are using these exact mounts for racing and had no problems while racing (oil pressure problems or drive shafts popping), then I would guess you should be ok.
