Kobra build
Morning all, took delivery of my Z3 kobra tribute kit on Friday. Will be looking for hints and tips as I start. At he moment I am making a list of stuff to get in before any dismantling . I'm also making a list of questions to ask so I don't forget any thing important. I have a two litre Z which I know isn't the biggest engine, but I'm hoping the six pot will give me reasonable everyday driving. As the user name suggests I'm in Lincoln. Would be pleased to hear from some seasoned kobra builders. Cheers jon

Welcome to the forum Jon.
There are not many detailed Kobra build threads, as these seem to go together very quickly. Some have been painted within a few weeks of the kit arriving! There are links to a few build threads here: http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...4&postcount=21 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...7&postcount=26 Hope that helps & Good Luck, Paul. :) |

Pictures
Will get some pics up from start to finish. At the moment I'm making lists of things I need to get started. Having read loads of posts it seems that I had forgotten a decent dust mask .

Take off all the parts from the Z3 you don't need and sell them on ebay.
That will fund the rest of your build ! |
Best of luck with the build Jon. One day I will follow suit and build a Kobra. Just waiting on funds, time, space, less points on my license.
You decided on style, colour, wheel choice, modern, classic etc etc ? Dave |
Will be doing that in the next week or so. Car is in really good Nick as are the alloys so hopefully you're right.
|
Going to be very classic in style, minimal bling.

You can find a lot of information about the Tribute range in general here: http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...ead.php?t=4623 But to save you some time... The original Kobra development thread is here: http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...ead.php?t=4660 And a collection of Kobra builds are here: http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...4&postcount=21 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...7&postcount=26 The ones with build threads will have a link to click on. Hope that helps, Paul. :) |
To compliment what PaulL has said there are builds on here. As I understand it there are 10s and 10s of Kobras out there. Just most builds done by people not wanting to share on social media.
I recommend either talking to Chris at Tribute himself (bear with him as the manufacturer of kits take up a lot of time) or Richard at Nubodi who can give very good advice and can provide build pictures etc. Next week I start my own Kobra build so can offer a bit of help (first time builder so not an experienced person) and have found a combination of this place and speaking with Chris and Richard a massive help. One other thing is that I frequent the Z3 owners forum (known as Z.org) also as this is a great info source if you want to read about Z3 mechanical tweaks too. Hope my post does help too. Welcome to the forum. Dave |

It will be great to see a new Cobra build documented on here. It will be time consuming, but many of the build threads for other models have useful information about things such as blanking off the chassis member ends, Links to wheel and tyre sizing sites etc. Good luck with the build. |
Tribute Automotive Builds
Hi Dave
Many thanks for your reply. It is great to hear from someone who is about to embark on his own build. Unfortunately I can't start mine for a few months yet but its something I'm definitely going to do. I'm meeting up with Richard at Nubodi this morning where he's kindly offered to run through a build with me while I take some photos. Luckily I live in Reading so hope to visit him a few times before I actually buy the kit. Please keep me informed on every stage of your build it will be invaluable to me when it does come to my own build. Can I ask did you buy your kit from Richard or Chris? |

Tribute Automotive Builds
Hi again DaveP I've just noticed you live in Reading do you want to meet up for a chat about your build? Would love to see the kit and your donor car.

The Tribute owners group on Facebook is virtually all Cobra builds ...

That is possible yes. I have not started yet so the donor is in one piece. I begin Monday space , time and weather permitting. I work in the centre of reading normally so we could arrange something. Dave |
Tribute Automotive Builds
Hi Dave
It would be great to see you start your build. I have no mechanical experience whatsoever and I must admit that first step of unbolting the panels seems a bit daunting. Richard at Nubodi as kindly talked me through a build but theres nothing like seeing it for real so to speak. I live in Tilehurst and only work part time from 12 to 5pm Monday to Friday. So you just let me know where and when and I will be there. My mobile is 07504863916 You can just text the details if thats easier for you. Regards Paul |
Hi Paul,
Thanks for the last message. My timing “might” change so I’ll let you know. If I do start working I’ll be sure to take some pics as I go. And will share them of course. Bear with me :) Oh and this is my firs time build too so know how you feel. Dave |
