i really like the style of the Sammio G46

I am part way through stripping my Scimitar donor car any some nasty git has planted a seed of an idea in my mind. I was thinking of moving the cab back a bit. There is quite a length between the door and the back wheel arch which I would like to lose.

Using my amazing graphic skills and MS Paint I have produced a mock up.

1) chop out the back and move the hump backwards
2) Stretch the door.
3) Lengthen the bonnet.
4) Lengthen the sill

Can you give me some kinds of advice or difficulty rating? Not previous experience with glass fibre if that is relevant.

PS The photos do not do the body justice, is swoops and curves beautifully which is great but might make blending in the buts a bit challenging

For what its worth I think the car looks better with your 'photo edit' skills.

The natural proportions in life are 1/3 - 2/3rds and the original design ignored theses.

the rear bit to cur off the hump and move the seat back are straight forward, cutting the chassis and re-welding are the basics and again can be achieved easily either professionally or in your usual well equipped and experienced workshop.

The problem comes when you considerer the bit you did not mention.... the extension of the bonnet and the reduction of the scuttle this is more involved.

Getting the strength into the underside of the bonnet as it overlaps the scuttle and sitting smooth would be where I see the challenge.:pout:

If you had the original moulds its better but to mod the bonnet and make a mould then cast the new proper bonnet is a labour of love, time and money.:der:

Everything is possible but you have to ask is it worth the effort to do it just to say you have. Just go and buy a 350Z and enjoy the comfort and thrill of a production car that works.
Then drive it, not spend 10 years building it, never to drive it.

You sound like you have had some bad experiences...

I have a couple of other cars to drive which work, this is a toy project.

It's just fibreglass and filler!

Get yourself some thick card and some tape and try "mocking up" the scuttle area, mark out the new door size in tape on the side of the car, then stand back and take a long look, make sure you are happy, then start cutting.

If you haven't used fibreglass before, buy some and have a go, try joining some scraps together from the Scimitar body, your neighbours will love the smell!
