Agent Thor - 60s Show Car

AGENT THOR
Well after a couple of false starts, life choices, work commitments etc etc. I have finally started my 60s Show Car Tribute build! Have been a massive Ed Roth fan for years, luckily to have meet him back in 1983. One of my favourite was his Road Agent, built around a Corvair engine, fibreglass body and Perspex dome roof. I’m building a ‘tribute’ to this car, not a clone or copy, just my ‘take’ on the car. Using a 1971 VW Beetle and totally ‘Road Legal’ (honest) using the ‘rebody’ RAV Rules. Purchased this Beetle of EvilBay, no engine for £320. Pulled the body off today (makes it sound easy!!! – it wasn’t) and happy to find out only one of the floor pans needs repairing. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...6&d=1519506975 |
How do I set the attached photos to 'show' and not be 'attached images' in the post?
|
If anybody wants a 1971 VW Beetle shell (NO paperwork/V5) please come and get it!
|
good luck , sounds interesting ..love a Roth-esque car ...I did a couple of Beetle engined 32 Fords a few years back ...what body are you starting with ? a Bucket ?
|
With be using the plaster & vermiculite method.
Create the basic shape with boxes, mile crates etc. Cover with a 60/40 mix of Plaster/vermiculite. Carve to the desired shape and then cover in fibreglass. |

Thanks Paul.
Started to clean up the floor pans today. Only the drivers-side rear is rusted out, ordered a new 1/2 pan. Not a great deal of room, so need to get rid of the body ASAP. Got it up on EvilBay, but if it doesn't sell, will have to get the local scrappy to collect next weekend. |

Floor pan arrived today, good effort Mr Postman, but the so called 'Volkswagen Experts' supply, don't know the difference between a LH & RH floor Pan!!!
"Send it back and we'll send the correct one" "We'll refund the postage this time" !!!!!!! |
Oh, did 'Click & Collect' from Stoolstation, wife did the collecting and they only supplied 2 of the 3 wire brushes ordered.
AND I still can't get the images to 'show' on the page!! |

Did a bit on Agent Thor today, but not as much as I wanted to.
Set up my E-Tub, but the battery charger was broken. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...1&d=1521924845 Cut out for the new rear pan, but ran out of mig wire!! http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...1&d=1521924845 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...1&d=1521924845 Needed to fill the old grease nipple holes in the front beam. To big to plug weld, too small to cut out a piece of metal! So I turned down some nail heads, welded them in then cut off the shaft. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...1&d=1521924845 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...1&d=1521924845 |

Wonder how the stone-chip paint will hold-up against hailstones ??!!?? http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...5&d=1522344379 |
Amazing what some paint does to transform a project.
We also had hailstones lasting down last night too. Good luck, Paul. :) |

Quick mock-up for the front friction shocks.
Ignore the: crusty torsion arms & broken ball joint! Spray can lid will be replaced by 50mm round stock welded to the beam stiffener plate. Spring on the outside is to maintain tension on the arm. I'll use 10mm ally plate for the arms. Not sure if I should go inside or outside of the beam. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...1&d=1522693455 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...1&d=1522693455 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...1&d=1522693455 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...1&d=1522693455 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...1&d=1522693455 |

Liking the friction shock idea really leans up the beam was this on the original car was Roth’s idea ?
|
No, the original car didn't run any shocks.
But interestingly did use one of the beetle torsion bars/beams. I want my version to be street legal and within the DLA 8 Points Rules. |

Still messing with the friction shocks.
Wasn't sure how the 10mm ally would 'bend' but came out ok. Think I will change to 6mm as the 10mm looks too thick. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...1&d=1524423080 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...1&d=1524423080 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...1&d=1524423080 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...1&d=1524423080 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...1&d=1524423080 The springs just create the 'link' to the arm. Currently using a couple bits of cardboard, just foe size, but have an old leather briefcase to cut up. |

Made a start on shaping the body today.
Vermiculite & plaster in a 70/30 mix. Its going to be messy!! http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...1&d=1527018335 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...1&d=1527018335 |
Where are you based?
As I have a number of large foam insulation panels you are welcome to have FOC. As they might help bulk out the main shape before you fine tune the details. This is just a small piece I used to make my bonnet bulge. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-1...o/DSCF4663.JPG https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-k...o/DSCF4677.JPG Good luck, Paul. :) |
Love it Colin ...I can see the intended body shape now you have boarded it ... have you already got your bubble top ?
|
Cheers Paul, that's a fine offer!
Unfortunately based in Weston-Super-Mud, so not really practical to collect. Thanks anyway. |
Yes, actually have two bubbles , a clear on and a fluorescent yellow one!!!
Going to dig them out at the weekend. |
