What chassis is this body designed to fit?

I made this body wider for a few reasons , but one was so it is open to being fitted to alternative chassis , maybe , at a later date ...I am purely concentrating on the Triumph range at present as I want the car , primarily , to fit within the Classic Car and re-body categories ideally , retaining its Classic status etc...
But ....It may be of interest , that with an approx 3'' stretch on the rear of the bonnet and a lengthening of the lower wing section on the body , the width dimensions allow this to fit onto a Locost chassis . I have one here and , with a repositioning of the cockpit framework , slightly , to get the seating position changed , the chassis would go under one of my bodies ...... |
SOME UPDATES AS WE NEAR THE TASK OF PUTTING THE PRIMER ON ....
I have had an issue with photobucket and tinypics for some reason , so you will need to click on the links to view my pics - sorry ! We are hoping to prime the buck this weekend. Glan has started to go round the body doing some final tweaks ... Bonnet line is being straightened up ...the bonnet is going to have returned edges and not a naked edge like my previous example has ... https://www.imageupload.co.uk/images/2017/02/07/ff.jpg Part of paint prep. is the re-discovering of the doors and shuts . These popped out quite easily as Glan had used 3mm hardboard gap formers that he had waxed , so the doors released pretty well ..we had a slight breakout on the front edge that needs a fix , the passenger one popped out nearly perfect ... https://www.imageupload.co.uk/images/2017/02/07/fff.jpg https://www.imageupload.co.uk/images...02/07/ffff.jpg This pic shows the shut area and the nice deep cill , or half door feature ...The shuts will be squared up and moulded as show with the excess and then trimmed back afterwards ... https://www.imageupload.co.uk/images...2/07/fffff.jpg This pic gives an idea of the door in relation to the body .. The doors were made as a box initially to create the shuts . Now Glan has to step the rear inner edge back a couple of inches to give us a door that not only will open , but has room for a latch mechanism . As with the moulding of the bodies , these will be moulded oversize , in relation to internal depth and then trimmed back afterwards . Thanks for the detailed info concerning donor chassis. I was hoping to utilize a miata, however, the track being 6 & 8" wider presents a dilemma. |

Have you considered contacting a Hot Rod chassis builder and getting a quote for a purpose built spaceframe/tube chassis with the correct wheelbase and track for Gary's fibreglass body? From experience it's a relatively straightforward process bonding the body onto a subframe rather than the remains of a donor body, and mine's been on the road for nearly four years with no issues. By way of a bonus, you'd be able to specify your engine, transmission, axles etc. at the design stage and would end up with a car that drives just the way you like it. Just a thought. :) |
Lots of Triumph Spitfires available in the US, would imagine it would be a much cheaper starting place.

That's the high build primer on ....It's brilliant to see the car all in one colour , now I can't wait to see the curves highlighted with a shine .... (I'm using an alternative image hosting site at the moment , if you click on thumbnail , it will enlarge it )
https://s32.postimg.org/8bswuj5w1/formosa.jpg https://s7.postimg.org/hdbzga60n/formos4.jpg Tomorrow young Glanville will be sanding that back ..then we will make a decision on putting extra primer on or putting the top coat on ....Depending upon 'breakthrough's' in the primer and the availability of the gloss top coat Durabuild , which is imported from the States and doesn't appear to be available from any of the suppliers at the moment ...Our best option is ''about 3 weeks'' for the black top coat , so plan B may be to either add extra primer and/or polish that to a gloss ...... Should have an answer by lunchtime tomorrow .... |

The best way to learn it , isn't really on the internet , it's by working alongside someone who knows what they are doing ... Saturday morning workshop classes Glan ?? |
