Default New Forum

Right, you've probably been wondering why the forum has been offline for a day or so, well this is why, new forum software. Because of the breaches of PHPBB we decided to move over to VBulletin. It's a much more comprehensive piece of forum software and has much better support so should prove a better investment with regard keeping the board running.

I'll tell you now that the learning curve is quite steep going from PHPBB to VBulletin so the board isn't going to be perfect straight off the bat, I'll be fine tuning it over the next couple of weeks.

The basics are pretty much there though. All usernames have been kept so you should be able to login with your normal username and password.

The last 'safe' backup we had was the 25th March so any posts or registrations between then and yesterday have been lost I'm afraid

On the plus side there's now a tonne more smilies for Den to choose from

If you've bookmarked the forum then you'll still get here via a redirect but it would be better to change it to;

http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/forum

Please let me know of problems or features you'd like to see in this thread.

At the moment no signatures or attachments unless you can give me compelling reasons why the board should have them.

Most of you are probably already members of other forums running VBulletin so I won't go into the 'how to's', just have a play and find your way around. There's an FAQ section should you need it, but the main profile area is the 'User CP' section up top.

Thanks for your support and patience everyone.

Best regards, John

Great news concerning the enhanced forum and all that!!!

But..... can anybody tell me what motivates hackers to sod up other people's enjoyment?

They tend to be script kiddy's - bored kids with nothing better to do than spoil other peoples fun by running hack scripts on forums.

No excuse really the buggers should be strung up by the lower appendages!

The old forum was compromised by hackers and there was an increasing number of 'bot' registrations for the sole purpose of promoting porn / pharmacy sites etc.

The old forum ran on PHPBB software which it seems is too easy to compromise so I've changed it to VBulletin which offers better upgrades and support.

Fingers crossed anyway.

John
