Reminds me of an old property scam.

Your house is worth what other houses near by have recently sold for. Buy a few houses in and area cheaply, wait 6-12 months. Buy 1 more house (of yourself) at much over market value and suddenly the other properties are worth the new price. Sell / Torch them as you see fit and get the new high value insurance / sale price

Finished at £16,000 , well short of the BuyItNow price . The reserve was met !

I don't know if it was a genuine bidder though as he bid against himself to get to the reserve !

I need to try that. Just double check my bank balance first.

You borrow the seed money but yes, it is not a pocket money fraud.

That's normal on ebay - if any bidder places a bid above the reserve it'l jump straight to the reserve price.

I've had that happen a couple of times, most recently with a bit of electronic gadgetry that was on a 99p start bid, I bid £100 as a virgin bid and it jumped straight to the £80 reserve.

Yes thats true . I've done it before to find the reserve price when the seller won't tell me , then I retract the bid if its too much.

This bidder put in lots of small bids until the reserve was met, you can check this if you press on the bids counter , it will show all bids and when and how much.

Hmm so I could use my wifes account to bid just to find out the reserve...

... and if it is low enough it will make my bid = reserve rather than the amount I actually bid...

... and if it is too high I reject it ad that only ruins my wife's ebay profile

... or set up another eBay account using another email address. Make 5 purchases of cheap odds'n'sods to get your 5 +ve feedbacks then do the above.

Keep herself sweet.

It won't ruin your ebay profile to retract a bid , if you don't do it too often. You just claim to have entered the wrong amount and your bid is retracted .
ie current bid is £950 reserve not met. You place a bid at £10000 which is enough to show you their reserve , say £1900 , which is what your bid will show and "reserve met". Then you can retract your bid saying you entered the wrong amount , you only meant £1000. Simples !

I wonder if we see this being re-listed in the next few days with an opening line of 'Re-listed due to time waster' etc etc

If not then I think I'm going to order myself an MX250 kit! should have 1 built over the winter just in time for the start of the summer!.....

I think you would have more scope with a 250 SWB. Like the part built ex demo car which changed hands recently !

Back yet again, but this time a slight, well actually a massive price reduction.
Think he needs to do a auction with a reserve to find out what people will bid to.
