Sunday
Worked quite a lot on the car today, but don't seem to have achieved much,
but I have, its very time-consuming stuff putting all the bits back on without buggering up the paint.
Also, as the stuff is going on sort of permanently, it all has to be silicon-sealed to ensure its waterproof etc.
I got one quarter light on, some internal panels, and two rear rain channels,
fitted the stainless strip across the windscreen top, and sealed it on.
Fitted the seat backs, more to boost my morale than any practical use, as when I fit and wire the dash, they will come back out to give me room.
here are some pics:

Don't know or care Mick!
All repro's are frauds, and mine is a bigger fraud, than Lynx' as its not even Jaguar based, but what a crafty fraud!!

Yes they do Gary!
Or, at least they will against the dark green paint!
They are super-rare extra wide solid disc Triumph steelies, which I drilled out as per Dunlop.

You won't ever find an XKSS replica without the badges!
Even at 380 grand!!

Surely, if the badge is a genuine Jaguar/Ferrari/(Bentley )/Maserati part, then it can't really be a fraud...

Interesting point Mr T, all the very very exclusive expensive replica
making companies put the badges on their "Jaguars"
If I didn't know you any better, I'd say you were thinking deviously!

Surely to commit fraud you have to defraud *somebody*, if it's your own car and you don't plan to sell it as a Jaguar without mentioning the fact that it isn't a Jaguar, then no fraud exists?
That said, there is copyright, that MIGHT be a dodgy area but only if you try to make it *official* my registering it as a Jaguar, I would have thought?
At the end of the day I can't see JLR suing Scottie for copyright violation because he only has to point out that the (dummy) rivets are drilled centres whereas the original rivets were solid. Case dismissed!

Yes I think you are right there Ed, some years ago a judge dismissed a case bought by Caterham against Westfield, claiming violation, but the judge said there was not one measurement on either car the same.
I think it is the badge-ing that is the issue, but not with Jaguar it isn't, as they are very tolerant in that area, and I believe take it as a complement, rather than an insult like companies such as Mercedes or Bentley.

None of our cars would come under The Fraud Act 2006 unless the builder tried to make some gain for themselves or someone else, or to cause some loss to somebody else -
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/35/section/2
You'd effectively have to try to sell or hire it to someone and try to dupe them into believing it's an original.
As for breach of copyright or patent, there was this recent case brought by Daimler (under German law) -
http://www.worldcarfans.com/11203214...t-infringement
I have no idea what the law here in the UK would have to say about classic car 'homages' such as ours as it's civil law not criminal.
Thankfully though, nobody from Lancia has turned up at my house with a lawyer and a few heavies from the Cosa Nostra. Yet...

The copyright thing is quite complex, for example the Coka-Cola bottle shape is copyright, I believe the Rolls Royce radiator shape is copyright too, I guess many other details are copyright but I come back to my point that unless you are actively trying to make for sale and profit from suchlike, I can't see anybody bothering about an individual who is creating a tribute for fun.
I have seen it reported that VOSA see modifications to all cars as a violation of copyright but I don't really believe they are intent on policing multinational companies patents and copyrights for them, surely they have enough to do trying to stop ringing, 'cut and shuts' and poor maintenance in back street truck and taxi fleets, which is their real function.
Another sunny day, on holiday in sunny Morecambe today! Concreting a drive.

Ignoring the legal view, it is an old Spitfire pretending to be something much better. So it is a bit of a fraud, not in a bad way.
Keep up the good work Scottie, it looks great and is going to be something you are proud of.

Thanks Landmannnnnn!
Carried on with the slow process of trimming it out, and got both the quarter lights in, complete with lining rubber strips, and now all the rain channels. I am gradually getting nearer to what I am dreading, which is the bunch of spaghetti, that once all repaired, has to be tried, tested , and connected up to the dash.
I think I now have a mental block forming, which seems to get worse as I get closer.
Of course, I will do it, and it will all work in the end, but I can see problems!
The last thing to go on I guess will be the doors, as I need all the room I can for the wiring out.
The cockpit is going to be so very tight, once all trimmed out believe me.
I am 6 foot, and really need more room than there is, anyone bigger would simply not fit comfortably in it.
The main reason for this that it is 5 inches narrower than a real one, and the fore aft space is less too.
Perhaps some pics tomorrow. There were none today as it hasn't changed much with today' work.

Is it worth tackling the wiring before you complete the trimming?
More space and less to damage.
It isn't that difficult once you get started. I replaced the whole wiring loom in the Scimitar and it worked.

Yes WCA you are right about the space, but the trimming I've been doing is the rain channels and quarter lights and windscreen fittings, which don't really affect the internal space much.
I know its not that difficult, but I still am not looking forward to it!

It's 'one of those jobs' Scottie, they have to be done to enjoy the rest of the build. There are quite a few tasks I had a mental block with on my restoration, I find it's best to just get stuck in and look forward to the intense satisfaction you get when it's done!
It may just be something silly like a trapped wire, or one of your pop rivets has touched something it shouldn't?
Good luck with it.

Just make sure all your earth connections are good. Possibly even double earth for the starter in case one fails. That's what happened to me and it ended up earthing through the rear brake flexi when I turned the starter motor. Because it was at the other end of the car and I was head down by the engine block, I didn't realise until the smoke from the melting rubber on the flexi lines had totally filled the garage. Great fun.
