Talking build now started

Got back late last night from collecting the kit and donor.

I was amased how full the jumbo transit and now my garage was especially considering I still need quite a few bits.

Was quite amusing trying to get the engine out of the van, they made it look so easy loading with a forklift.

BTW went and saw the demonstrator and happened to see what will be the new building post move. V impressed when they get it up and running it will be good.

Right back out to my garage and sorting out donor parts. I cant beleive how long I was just puzzled what one bit was until I turned it over and worked out it was the battery tray. Doh !!!!

Enjoy it - it's an entertaining experience!

If you've got your kit, then my suspension should be on its way too! Excellent.

Great stuff David. Any advise, give me a shout.

Now get out there and start building.

Actually....

You could do me a big favour.

Could you take some pictures of you rear wishbones, hubs and ball joints.

Want to compare with mine.

New wishbone design

Old wishbone design

Note the lower ball joints. The older has two bolts holding the ball joints on.

Or you could have something different again...

Not done a dry fit of the suspension yet but I have photos of all the parts (except for springs) will pop them on my website later and re-post the links here.

Hi David.

That is excellent. Thanks very much for that.

They look exactly the same as mine. But...

I've notice in you bag of bits something that I do not have. The rear lower ball joint bag. It's the one with a big screw thread on the balljoint, a 19mm nut and a gold coloured round space in it. Is there anything else in is bag? Thought I could see somethng else.

Might need to resize/remove you pictures David. I have downloaded your pictures thanks.

Also logging into your web site. But it would not allow me to add a comment re you hub nut. Just came up with a blank page saying done at the bottom.

"Hi David.

Might need one of these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/12V-DC-ELECTRI...QQcmdZViewItem

Or get a garage to use there air impact wrench.

You need to de-stack the nut."

Ah see what you mean about the pic's i'll change them to links now you have seen them.

Interesting it varies between the two I have, mind there is a hole in one of the bags which might explain it. in the both bags is the ball joint large round washer, 19m bolt, a t shaped washer and in one of the bags only a rectuangular washer.

The reason it just says done is I have added comment moderation as I had a bad experience with spam, which means they dont appear until I have logged on and approved them which I do daily.

Cheers David.

I did not get any of the t shaped washers and rectuangular washers.

Just spoke to Mark though. There are washers and supply different ways of lock up the balljoint.

I was hoping they were spacers of some sort.

Will be interesting to see how you get on with the rear setup.

I'll hopefully have mine sorted by then though, so can offer some advise.

Yeah they arn't substantial enough to be spacers looked more like some form of locking washers to me. Here is the picture of them:

http://dipsy.moon127.net/~higgins/pr...g/P2270092.JPG

My car has a very different rear-end its the first of the new rear chassis design, but think the suspension will be the same as yours.

Trip to my local garage now means I have been able to dis-assemble my hubs also hopefully building up links for future such needs.

The back end no longer bolts on its all welded, and to me looks stronger. Also all the engine mounts are different now. The new system is theres a standard set of mounts welded to the chassis and the engine mount kits differ this give a much better option if you want to change engines at any point just buy a new mount kit the chassis is fine. Mine uses the first of the new k-series mounts, they were taking photos of them on my engine when I collected it as it was the first.

Marlin now ship in a dark grey colour. My chassis is like a off white. I got the paint code and had to paint the replacement components.

yeah its all now a dark grey with a slight blue tint. Was suprised when I saw it as assumed it would be off white, but I actually prefer the new colour. They appear to have done a good job with the powdercoat too, it looks very hard wearing.

I assume the rollcage will still be black, but that wasnt available when I collected my kit.

I did wonder "where is your rollcage" when I see the pictures with the van.
