On Wednesday 6th April 2016 we were invited by Burton Power to Brands Hatch for a VIP day.
This included unlimited use of the track, complementary food and drink for the day. Hard to say no.
Signing on and briefing was at 7.30 am so it was an early start for me and my wife Kim and my daughter Leanne. We were in the red Kalifornia and Leanne was in the Kobra demonstrator. We arrived at 7.00am and met up with the new editor of kitcar magazine, who was there to do a photoshoot of our customers car, Bryn Webber in his 250 SWB that we built for him.
Bryn and Leanne had never been out on a track before.

After the drivers briefing we went back to our cars ready to do a 'spotters lap' which basically is a slow drive around the track to see the layout. Then you are allowed to go faster. Both myself and Bryn (and many others) span out on these first laps. It was chucking it down with rain and hard to get any grip. One of the marshalls smelt petrol from my car and retired me. I had just filled up with fuel around the corner and with the cornering it leaked a bit.

Next bit of bad news was that the cars had to report to sound testing before racing started properly. The limit here is 96 decibels which is quite loud. You have to rev the car to 4800 rpm. However Bryns car with its new straight through stainless exhaust nearly broke the tester at an ear splitting 112 dbcs.
No more racing for him.

Finally at the end of a great day, Bryn and Leanne were grinning from ear to ear, we turned our attention to the photoshoot.
Make sure you pre order your June issue of Kitcar magazine for the exclusive first article, or buy from their stand at Stoneleigh. All the cars you see here and more will be there too.

Looks like great fun. Love the pics.
And very cool to see a KOBRA on the forum again. The 250SWB has been in the limelight for some time (deservedly) and I was feeling a little sorry for a worthy motor.

112dB is almost as loud as the Brexits today when they found out the Govt were spending £9M on the stay in EU campaign

Luckily the Kobra had been changed to DOT 5 so no boiling.
After my last 5 laps I came in and the discs were glowing and the smell of friction material was bad.
Shame you could not make it Scott, it was fun..despite the weather.
Credit goes to the Z3's though...very, very capable sports car. The Kobra had been rested for the winter but outside in the elements. Started first touch, roof did not leak, then drove 2 hours to Brands, thrashed by several drivers on the day and drove home 2 hours on half a tank of fuel. What a donor vehicle!

Darren you have to track day your car..its so much fun. The Kobra for me stole the day! We have been concentrating so much on the 250's it's easy to forget how good they are. Ive raced much more powerful cars around silverstone and castle combe but Brands is a top track.

I've tracked my bike a few times but not my car yet.
Might be a good idea.

Do it.
There were at least 3 MX-5's there.
