The same chap who then took the Sammio to Beaulieu and put a price tag of over thirty thousand on it !!!
and I thought the only madman to come out of Germany was Austrian !!
It didn't sell....................

Thirty grand would've been a bargain. I've done some calculations on the back of a napkin and I reckon I've now put about a thousand hours into building my Spyder (admittedly more than half of that was spent renovating the rotten chassis). At main dealer labour rates of at least forty quid an hour, that means I've got about £40k plus parts banked in my car.
Now, off to Beaulieu to double my money - "At eighty five thousand guineas I'm bid, do I hear ninety? Selling this unique silver Sammio Spyder at Eighty five thousand guineas... Ninety, ninety thousand I'm bid. Ninety five, one hundred, one hundred and ten thousand guineas...
Well, one can dream...

I have heard that the MUCH rarer road going G46 can't be bought for money or love at the moment.
The first one of those that appears on the open market must be at least 5 - 10 times the basic Sammio price.
This time next year I will be a millionaire!

Micha, no body cares. We can register them here in the UK, which is where everybody is building them to use. Do one!

the seller is into british cars and motorbikes for longer time...maybe a dealer? also from the feedback at ebay and the bid hisory it looks like he has a 2nd account, surplus the actual ebay advert gets pushed pricewise.

And well done for finding it on ebay - I had a little browse but got bored when it didn't pop up on my first search. Anyone know who built this one?
Oh, and Micha, I have a feeling that the Sammio concept isn't really for you. Those of us who are building them in this remote and hard to fathom outpost of the European Union kind of understand the concept and accept the 'risk' involved in driving a home built car on the road. Truth is, if a full sized HGV slams into the back of you at a set of traffic lights it doesn't matter what you're driving, the truck's going to come out on top, possibly quite literally.
I can only sympathise with any genuine German Sammio enthusiasts regarding the apparent difficulty in registering such specialist cars in your country. My experience over here was as follows:
I filled out two short forms which took me almost five minutes;
I emailed a chap who works at the local Vehicle Licencing Agency office, he rang me back twenty minutes after I pressed 'send' and arranged a mutually convenient appointment a few days later;
I towed my part built car to his office about thirty km away, where a very nice man in a fleece spent twenty minutes with a clipboard checking that all the serial numbers matched and asking me a few questions about the build. The inspection was free of charge and that was that, my 1968 Triumph Vitesse is now registered as a 1968 Triumph Sammio Spyder Sports. It retains its historical vehicle status which means it keeps its age related number plate and qualifies for free annual road tax, a saving of about 250 Euros per annum.
So, it may be somewhat presumptious of me to say so, but I think the way forward for your good self is to root around in the pockets of your other lederhosen, find yourself about sixty thousand Euros, hop aboard your nearest excellent and efficient integrated public transport network and make your way to the nearest Porsche dealer. Part with said sixty large and drive away in a thoroughly over-engineered, safe and easily registered Boxster. I think both of us would then be much happier with that.

It was Dave Thickens, who has the unit two doors down from Gary (LL). It was his second one he built. Was on UK ebay a month ago and up for £8500.

Micha, if you need any help in translating Mister Towed's post, I would be very happy to help. I think I could summarise it in a couple of words. Yes, definitely in two words.

(as i'm in a positive mood atm due to everything going on)
If nothing else i would say that Micha's posts have raised a few interesting technical points about how the German registration system works and those observations may be useful to other potential German builders/owners?

AS TONY SAYS ....Built by Dave Thickens two doors away from me....
Sold for 7500 , I believe ....
Its a bit dissapointing if the cars aren't getting registered easily in Germany ...cars have been successfully registered in Holland , Belgium , France etc...
I do feel the 31,500 euros is a little optimistic...
Towed , we have fluted vinyl in Jennettes car as well ...about 20 quid a metre on ebay etc...3.5m will do two cars as its 54'' wide and you can cut it down the centre....

It's a worthless token you can exchange for about a tenth of a pint of beer in an Ibiza nightclub.

I am never made it to an Ibiza a night club, the always fancied an 18-30 holiday but guess I am slightly out of that age bracket now. Sounds like the beers too pricey anyway!

That's more like it. Was it TUV tested though?
