Default Facebook Page

Hi All

I was think of creating a Facebook page, for sharing more of our photos with each other.

I know a lot of you don't like Facebook, I would like your thoughts anyway.

I would set the page up as either
1. Closed page (only added people can comment/add, but all can view)
or
2. Secret page (only people add can post and view)

This is only to share pictures (and comments if requested), as this forum is an excellent place for comments, information and threads

Sorry but allergic to Farcebook, oh and Twatter.

But don't let me being a grumpy old sod who is just back from holiday and wants to go back again and can't stand the bloody weather and really hates being cold and wishes I was sitting on Vijaya beach drinking fresh mango juice trying to decide if I want to go snorkelling off the reef today or just chill out and read a book...sorry off to find a tall building

I understand, I hate a lot of the crap that is put on Facebook, but thought it would be good to have load of pictures in one place for our reference.

I am in Vietnam at the moment, can't wait to get back and get start on the build, but stuck here for another 5 weeks.

Sorry, got to agree with 'tron.

About half my workload starts with the immortal words "I am 15 next munff and I had a friend on facebook and I posted a link to some me-tube footage of me and her boyfriend shagging when she was pissed out of her head at that party we all went to where I got bombed on Ketamine and he is fit since he come out of prison and now she is dissing me so I called her a bitch coz she is a 'king bitch but she has defriended me on facebook so my mum says you have to A rest her for harassing me coz we googled it on our i-phone sixes and I is harassed alarmed and distressed, innit, and if you don't A rest her I will complain to that IPCC fing and Jeremy Kyle will have your job."

I suppose it pays the bills.

Sorry but I have to ask . What is the benefits of a facebook page when we already have a forum ?

I'm not anti facebook particularly , its got its pro's and con's , but I don't see what you gain by using that medium rather than this one ?

From a business aspect , I can see the attraction but surely this forum caters for the recreational and technical aspects ?

Epic Towed

I have to agree. Though Ribble has a Facebook page, we don't expect it to be used exclusively and this forum already gives all builders a media for publishing their photos.

I love this forum very much but just a question, I only can attach pics in a very limited size (93kb), and my pics don't show in my posts, you always have to clic on it and it opens in another window.
Some of you guys have visible and bigger pics directly in your posts, how are you guys doing it?
I would like to show and share more of my build but at the moment it is not very comfortable.
Any advices?

Hi Axel, go to www.photobucket.com and create an account (free).

Follow the instructions to upload your pictures, then open the picture you want to post. To the right side of the screen you'll see a box labelled 'links to share this photo'. Click once in the bottom option 'IMG' and the word 'copied' will briefly appear.

Move over to the madabout forum thread that you want to put the picture in (which should be open in a second window), right click where you want the picture and click 'paste'. The image code will appear but this will become the picture when you submit the post.

Oh, and if you subsequently delete the image from photobucket it will also disappear from the thread.

Hope that helps and welcome to the forum, now let's see some pictures!

Thanks Mister!

I will try and open a thread, but at the moment I don't know whre to put it!
I have ripped a GT40 apart to make a Dino 206P out of it
is it a tribute build if I am converting an existing car into something else??

Works fine!

I'd go for the Dino 246 builds thread rather than the Tribute one from what you've said. How far have you progressed with your Dino GT40?

Wow, I guess that answers my now redundant question. Is that a windscreen from a Ferrari P4?

Ok, but the Dino 246 site is not very busy, the tribute site has much more traffic, anyway, the pic shows the current state.

It is plexiglass with a frame I built myself, just mock-up at the moment with thin plexi. It is a cylindrical surface and I will go for 4-5mm thick plexi at the end.
P4 might fit, but I never tried it.
Due to the longer wheelbase of a GT40 it is a 105% scaled Dino 206, I am over 6ft tall and will never fit in the original racecar with its 13" wheels, so this makes sense.

Sorry for bursting in this thread!

Photobucket (and other image hosting sites) are becoming a pain in the backside IMO - as well as size restrictions they are filling the page with ads more and more. The best way is to pay for space and host them yourself. Although forum webspace can get expensive I suspect it would be fairly easy to show an uploaded picture instead of the icon we currently get (certainly works on every other forum I'm on)?

Having a FB page is only good advertising - very shortsighted not to embrace the latest trends whether you like them or not - a closed page will prevent chavs describing their latest bowel movement and be an excellent "front page" to accompany the forum.

mas123mas - Rather than use Facebook, we could do a bit more on this forum.
There is no reason why we couldn't have a few threads with specific photos in them.

E.g. In your new build thread there is a photo of a nice tan interior.
If there was a separate thread with just interiors, dash layouts, etc. it could be included in the "sticky".
People have posted similar photos in other build threads of their inspiration.
Plus there are photos of finished cars that could be used.
It just needs someone to start it all off.

Note:
I will try to give the sticky a bit of an overhaul in the next few days as it is a bit out of date in places (again ).
I will also try to put together a single tread with completed car photos.
As unfortunately some of the company / website changes broke old photo links.
So there is now a lot of blue "X"s where some photos used to be.
( The thread I set up for rear lighting options is a prime example of this. )

Alex - Hello & welcome, as GaryH has said, your build might encourage more traffic.
Many people on here will read about other builds that are not the same as the kit they are building.
Personally, I think you need to leave the Tribute Automotives section for their kits only.

Cheers, Paul.

I'm not into Facebook either. I simply consider it a modern version of gossiping over the washing line and believe it is of no value at all.

Besides which we have 'Private Mail' for those who feel inclined to be cliquey...
