MOT passed, on the second attempt. Failed on a perished ball joint cover, so after a Le Mans style strip down of the front end and replacement of said cover, I got retested 30mins later and she's now road legal again.

YAY!!

Bl**dy hell GOO, that must be some kind of rebuild record following a complete dismantle for painting (especially taking your residential week out training course).

I am really looking forward to seeing Vikki with her make up on!

No tonneau. I do have a large full car cover, but it's very bulky...

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's going to be fine on Sunday.

Bootrack now fitted as well:

It's removable, so I can get to the spare, and if I don't have to have it on if neccessary. The stays tighten up to keep the rack in place, and attach to the eyes on the roll bar and bumpers.

It's very sturdy - I'm sure it'll manage the picnic hamper at the weekend.

Ok, I think I have fathomed it Jason.

Would I be right in assuming that you made tubular extension pieces for your boot rack as I have searched around to find a boot rack that fits over the spare wheel. They are all designed for a typical sports car with a flat boot lid ie. no spare wheel in top of it.

Obviously I want to buy one for my Sportster.

Took pics of yours last sunday and want to copy your method of attachment to the car.
You thought that out nicely.

There is a boat chandlery in Abingdon which should have similar stainless steel parts for the attachment.

Have you seen these racks and extension pieces from Europa Spares.

You may need a bit more detail to see if they are long enough but they may do the trick. I used something similar on a Marlin Roadster I built back in the 80's

Hi guys,

I bought the Millie miglia rack from Europa, and they specifically mentioned that the boot rack extension pieces they sell don't fit that rack. That's why I turned my own.

The extensions are just aluminium bar stock that has been turned down to the correct diameter to fit the rubber feet, and a slight decorative taper applied to the top where it meets the rack. They're attached with m5 cap head screws through the middle of the extension.

The height will be dependant on the width of your tyre.

If you're interested, I'll post up a diagram of how they're made.
