Default Colours ?

This has been touched on before but an update would be interesting....

We have just seen on Stewarts thread a Sammio finished in Dove grey and Barry from Sarfend has finished his in a darker red with black stripe.

There are several BRG and similar green ones about and coming and red still and always will , remain popular ....

Pats going yellow , Barry Mays Ecosse blue , I know of a possible silver example , some darker reds are in the pipeline....I'm pretty sure John from Essex JW52? is doing his Iris blue ...possible white stage prop example in the pipeline as well...

Anybody else out there braving alternative colours .....???

Cordite prototype is pencilled in to be an Iris blue type of colour ....maybe the Morris version , not sure yet....

Default 2 possible colours

I did start with wanting Aston Martin Dubbonet Red, but after speaking to Nick from Margate, which is only up the road i have bought a tin of Olde English White so we wouldn't have the same colour...

Now then. This is something that's been troubling me for 'king ages.

I don't know how others have come across the Sammio, but for me the revelation came on ebay about a year ago when I put the word 'spyder' into the search box and Gary's creation rather unexpectedly popped out.

I only did that because I'd fallen in love with early Porsches in about 1980 when I saw a beetle based RSK718 Spyder parked outside a shop in Bridgend. A mate who had a vw based 'Nova' (with the parallelogram roof, remember those?) explained what it was and I spent the next thirty years wishing I could justify spending £12k -£14k on such a toy.

Now, the 718 should be silver. Full stop. I've seen one in red, one in black and one in powder blue and none of them 'worked' for me. It would have to be silver and that's that.

But, during the meanwhilst, I also rather took to the looks and extra practicality of the 356 speedster. Which looks good in silver, but better in red, black, or even James Dean's choice, white imho.

So, if I'd found the unstarted RSK718 kit I was looking for it would be silver, no question. And if I'd stumped up for a 356 kit it'd be black with a red interior, no question. And, having fallen for Gary's creation my gut reaction was that it'd look great in Fiat broom yellow.

But then I bought into the whole Lancia D24 homage thing and decided that it had to be Italian racing red of some hue. But which red? After loads of deliberating I'd settled on RAL 3032 Pearl Ruby Red because it appeared to be closest to the dark red colour used on most of the originals.

Then, after starting to spray my bulkhead in hammerite black the other day I remembered how much I like black. So, for almost a day I settled on black.

And then someoine puts up a post of the dove grey 'Marlet' (whatever) Spyder, which looks silver on my laptop, and I think it looks fantastic.

So, today, I'm back to silver. With black stripes in a sunbeam lotus stylee. Or black. Or red. But which red?...

Bugger.

Yep I think I beat Gary H to the post I am going Aston Martin Dubonnet Red and keeping black wires with chrome spinners.

I still have a mate who does vinyl, who wants to chrome/ or brush ally wrap it!

I would love to see one in cream or white if anyone has any pics. That's my first choice At the moment but I will probably change my mind!

I actually like them in all the colours I have seen on them so far, so that is a true test for the great styling that Gary has achieved.

What about orange? I reckon a modern twist on the classic shape!

For me it had to be a red one.
As every small boy knows, red ones go faster :-)

Always thought blue was an underrated colour, but it has to be the right shade. Used to have a beautiful Triumph Saloon in Delft Blue, but I think a shade just a bit lighter would be great - think of the Tyrrell F1 cars from the 70'ies - best approximation I can come up with is Oxford blue.

Just the colour for a Cordite...

Took Sam to the beach early this morning and we parked in a quieter car park just above the beach to keep out of the way of the non-locals....anyway ...a T5 van pulled in just as we were going ( location is popular with kite surfers ) and it was Danish Blue ...The van was an 04 , I thought the colour was later than that...

Not sure how well it comes out on here but I took a piccy....Its a lovely colour and would suit a Sammio , IMHO....

Its on my shortlist for the Cordite Prototype...

I love it!

I particularly like the aluminium 'bomber' seat and the jaunty angle of the tacho (speedo?).

I think the gauge angles are set so that in ideal (racing) circumstances, all the needles would be aligned vertically upwards. This is also done on some aircraft so that if anything is wrong it's immediately obvious to the driver/pilot.

The dash design appeals so much I thought it might be worth posting a picture directly for future reference:

The layout is quite similar to the D24 dash too, so period correct for a sports racing car of that era.

Will be aiming to achieve that kind of look in mine somehow. Haven't worked out quite how yet though as I'm aiming to design the dash around the steering column once the body's (eventually) fitted.

Default cordite show colour

While out and about i spotted this new fiat500 the colour looked perfect in the unseasonal sun yesterday.

I would like to see the Cordite in this colour - it looked retro maybe even a little french racing blue
