Default Rob's V8 MX250

We supplied an MX250 hard top kit to Rob from Exeter back in July this year. He owns and runs a garage, so progress has been pretty quick, he is almost finished, car painted and being fitted up. One slight problem that Rob has run into is with his choice of engine or rather his carb set up. The Rover V8 fits really well in the MX5 engine bay but the "Boxer" 4 SU carb set up is arguing with the standard bonnet to the tune of 2 1/2 inches of vertical clearance being required:

Problem almost solved. A new mould has been made from the buck shown above, with a new bonnet to be laid up this week. I will post some pics of Robs finished car as soon as he sends some.

Bit of a off the wall request, but when you speak to Rob next could you ask him how he overcame the low sump on the Rover engine in the mx5. The guy who now owns my old mx5 is worried about the low sitting sump, have to admit I smacked it hard enough to put a hole in it, twice

Many thanks
Andy

The "boxer" quad SU manifold is very high , the MGB GT V8 twin SU manifold would have fitted with loads of clearance. My old Robin Hood with Rover V8 had very little sump clearance. I simply welded on a 3mm steel skid plate which ran from the bell housing to the front of the sump near the crank pulley . It never was a problem after that !

There's a blast from the past, the old RV8... Not exactly a powerhouse by today's standards.
In terms of clearance it is that hard to chop up the sump to make it wider and shallower. It does mean adding some additional baffles and modifying the pick up.
Or you could go the full Monty from the likes of JE and dry sump it.
