Default Just a few electrical questions.

Fitted (or should I say started to fit) the wiring loom this weekend.

Started by labelling all the wires on the Marlin loom, I hope that it will make matching it with the original loom easy (ish).

I came across the following:

x2 Black/White(t) wires going to the brake resevoir - why?

A few wires on the dash side didn't make sense compared to the diagram I got from Marlin.

What are these for?
Grey/Blue(t) and Red/white(t) going to the speedo head (I think the red is illumination?)
Purple, Black, Green - these are not on the Marlin diagram but look as if they got to the ignition?
Purple, Black - are these for the horn? (not the same as the diagram says)

I could not see any wires that go to the 5AS box - do I need to buy the Marlin 5AS loom too? Why?

Which wires that go to the heater assy are the live and earth feed? - I already have the rest of this fitted & working.

HELP!

Default wiring

The black/white wires are brake fluid level sensor.
Red /white is feeding side light circuits so must be dash illumination.
Grey/Blue possibly alarm?
purple and purple/black colours for horn (in diagram)
purple also shown in diagram as permanent battery feed (P per+) terminal 30
Green is Switched live (from ignition switch) terminal 15
Blacks are always earth
The heater fan shows green which should be switched live and earthing through grey and black

If you study diagram you can see Black is always neg, Purple is permanent live, Green is Ignition switched live.

S is slate (grey)
does anybody know what colour K is?.

Good luck with it

Brian

Horn colours are opposite to what the diagram I have says, but guessed right.

Are you talking terminals, as in on the Marlin fusebox?

Default wiring

terminal 30 is standard iso classification for permanent battery positive and 15 ignition switched supply. If you look on the rear of the ignition switch it will probably have these markings on. They are standard classifications. I mentioned them because your donor parts will use these references although the wiring colours of the marlin harness are vintage ala moggy minors.
It will help you to know all of these numbered references because if you see them marked on switches, relays etc it will make the job much easier.
I can't guarantee they will always be marked up but it's worth a look. If you search the internet for iso pin number classifications i'm sure you will come up with something, I have them in a book and if I knew how to post it on here I would, computers and internet not my strong point.

I was working from diagram posted on here and it shows horn as purple/purple-black.
The brake fluid level sensor has 2 connections in and out, the warning light also doubles up as handbrake on light by the way.
good luck

Brian

Hi Brian.

there are two ways you can get if from the book.

1) if you have a scanner I can walk you through how to do it
2) Take a pictue using a digital camera and get it poposted for you.

Thanks John,
I'll take a photo copy at work and you can lead me through it.

If it will help anyone, I have an electronics parts catalogue and technical data manual on CD for Rover cars after '95.

This includes the wiring diagrams

Can post a copy if anyone wants / needs it.

If you want a copy, PM me with your address.
