Thanks for the input fellahs, I think you are all correct, as I have just spoken to Mick O'Malley on the phone, and he says it is the voltage stabilizer.
The input is 12v and output 10v according to him.
I have just tested it and although the box has continuity, with it connected, I don't seem to be able to get an output voltage.
However, I re-wired my water and fuel gauges without it as I didn't know what it was at that stage, and they both seemed to work okay, (like Axel says) so I'll probably just leave it.
as long as the speedo works that's fine by me.

Scottie - Sorry I'm just heading out so have to be quick...
The box will be listed on your wiring diagram as the voltage stabiliser.
The light green wire goes from this box on the speedo to the fuel gauge and then on to the temp. gauge.
Hope that helps, Paul.
PS
I can sort out some photos of my set up when I get back if you need them.

I seem to remember that by passing the VSR made the gauges flicker up and down when using the indicators, other than that no issues leaving it out.

Well done and good luck with the fitting.
I did my bit to help by not posting anything and therefore not misleading or confusing you :-)

Scottie you may find the fuel and water temp gauge will have a flickering needle without a voltage stabilizer fitted due to high and low voltage feeds, both these gauges require a steady 10v.
There are guys who make a solid state modern equivalent housed in the original box like the one you have on the speedo or if you feel like it you can buy the bits for a couple of quid and make your own, you can also still buy an original mechanical type from all the usual suppliers.
One more thing you can run up to three gauges from one stabilizer unit.

That documentary was good, Scottie. I saw a women put he dashboard in the lightweight... So, I think you dragged it out a bit. I wonder if you could race your car at goodwood? It's not a replica...

I guess you didn't watch the Channel 4 documentary about the world's most expensive Jaguar then?

Friday
Another long day, but I have good results.
I eventually got the dash to fit, after much last minute modding and re-drilling holes etc. The dash was slightly sticking out a wee bit more than before, which had a knock-on effect, (doesn't it ALWAYS?) of making the steering boss foul the dash front.
I stripped the boss off and hacked about 20mm off and re-profiled it, which took longer than I'd planned, but now it fits perfectly and is satisfactory.
It even looks better, the shape it is now, which does not show in the following pics.
I have laboured long and hard to get to the point where I could actually take these three pics!
The next job is to put the new windscreen and rubber in place, then the doors on, and perhaps an Mot, given good weather.

MOT you say? If it passes, which I've no doubt it will, it begs the question WHAT THE BLINKING FLIP ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH YOUR SPARE TIME THEN?
That's from experience btw.
Oh, and I do like your dash.

Thanks Mr T!
The spare time problem should not affect me, as I never seem to have ever had any!
Mind you, I've never been bored either.

Looks fantastic Scottie, you must be well chuffed with the result of all the graft on that dash. Good luck for the MOT.
I know what you mean about not being bored, the main problem is the lack of daylight hours and having to waste time sleeping as there is always another extra task or two to do.

Scottie - I'm glad to hear you were able to sort out all your wiring problems.
I know it took a ton of work to achieve, but the whole dash area really looks the part.
I hope you have no problems with the last few items you need for the MOT.
Good luck, Paul.
