Hi, I'm having a problem with the ball joint assemblies on the bottom and top of the wishbones when I try and tighten the nuts the threads just turn inside the ball joint!! Can anyone advise me on this please? Should the joint be a tight fit into the hub as I thought this was the case but mine can be puished all the way in and out by hand?
Craig
Your problem may be that the tapered holes in the hub carriers are too big
I had holes that were too big in my rear hub carrier the hole for the toe in and out adjusting was too big and the front steering hole was too big
I had to send them back to marlin to get them reworked
Also, you need to make sure that there is no powder coat left in the taper as this will in the long run degrade and effectively loosen the nut.
Easiest way I find to tighten these up is to run a plain nut on first (instead of nyloc)...this will easily tighten without wanting to rotate the ball joint. Then once you've nipped this up, simply remove the plain nut and replace with nyloc...
Had a similar problem, like Rich I used that option of a nomal nut, but also, I put the whole assembly either in the vice, or a black and decker work mate just to hold initially pushing the taper in a tight as I could.
Cheers for the advice everyone! I'm still not 100% happy with how they fit in the hubs as they go in too easily but they are now tight....managed to split one of the bottom rear rubbers does anyone know which model Rover they are off so I can buy another?
Anyway now for the good bit finally purchased some wheels after much deliberation fitted them and got it off the build trolley today...wow love it!! I'm sure everyone feels exactly the same when you see it on it's wheels for the first time! Just wish it was not raining so I could push it onto the drive
