Default 5exi and the IVA Legislation effective 29th April 2009

If you don't watch the general chatter...

I have posted an IVA thread along the lines of...

IVA Legislation comes into effect on 29th April 2009

Applications for the new IVA will be accepted from 31st March 2009 onwards.

SVA applications will not be processed after 28th February 2009. If you have already, or get an SVA certificate it will be valid until 31st October 2009 and then its a retest for an IVA.

Could you clarify please John? Is this for people that have there MAC already (passed SVA) but not registered? Or is this for registered owners as well?

The fuel filler cap with ignition key. Only way I can see doing this, is use the donor ones. Which I did anyway for the steering lock function.

John,

It does not affect you at all! Did you not get all the bumf through the post about it?

sva is still valid until iva date! If you pass sva on the 28th april the mac is valid until 31st oct but you would have it registered by then anyway.

No good for the curent builders who can't complete in time but we can sit back and forget about it

Craig

Ah great news. I got a bit worried as I'm going through a major rebuild.

I did not get anything through the post about it.

This is the classic problem of understanding what we as builder's are required to do.

Craig may be right but if you are currently relying on an SVA certificate to register your baby after the 31st October the SVA certificate is not going to be accepted, that's what I read.

If you have already used the SVA certificate to gain the MAC but have not TAX'ed the car you should be okay, remember the SVA replaces the mot certificate for 12 months (from the date of registration) on age related cars so an MoT may be required to gain the next TAX disk.

As we are all seeing though its worth checking with your local DVLA office before you go passed the date of no return.

As for the ign keyed fuel lock cap, that's great if you retained the cap and the column and the ign key. Otherwise its a couple of zip clips or the plug chain from the bath and a small hole in the cap, for the test day.

Note to new builders get the matched set on day one, ready for the test day.

All the detail is on the VOSA link I placed in the main post in Chatter.
