Default Reverse gear! Honda content..

Hi all, spent some time on my car today after a couple of months off....
I drove the car quite a bit today and discovered that I can't select reverse gear.....all the others are fine and easily obtainable.

After playing with cables for a while with no luck, I then tried to manually lift the counter weight on the gearbox and it would not budge above 6th gear.

Hmmm, I have given it some thought and need some clarity!!

I am thinking about the reverse lockout........could it be this??

Does the ecu need a signal from the speedo to engage/disengage the lockout?

I currently do not have the speedo connected to the ecu

Cheers
Craig

I no for a fact that its a a dog to get into reverse. It does normal go in once the cluch is right to the floor and on max travel. Normally goes in with a nice healthy clonk.

Cheers Jon,
The bite on my clutch however is at the very top ie no where near the floor so I would have thought that I have enough travel. When the pedal is on the floor the piston travel is 100%

Craig,

Mine goes into reverse easily. I suspect your problem is that the reverse gear solenoid (which inhibits the selection of reverse above 5mph), is stuck, and stopping you from selecting reverse. The solenoid is on the shift tower, and has an electrical plug on it.

The ecu shouldn't activate the reverse gear lockout if there's no speed signal - no signal is, as far as the ecu is concerned, stationary.

Cheers,

John.
