Default Adam MX250 Build

Hi Guys, I have just embarked on my first ever kit car build. I came across the Tribute MX250 online and just had to have a go. I drove down to pick the kit up from Chris last weekend (26th April) and had already sourced an imported mk1 Eunos/mx5.

I will stick some posts up of the build every now and then and most likley be asking peoples advice when I get stuck : )

My 94 Eunos

I was thinking of a classic flat colour which is not red as so many have already been done.

Old English White or Cream with a double off set bright blue go faster stripe was my original idea.

Got a bit more done over the long weekend, roll cage painted, support structures bolted in place, arches are now cut and welded.

I am now waiting on a set of coilovers to arrive, I wanna fit new coilovers and new discs and pads before looking to bolt n bond the rear of the car on.

Question - has any one tried to fill the void between rear aches and body of car with expanding foam filler?

I was thinking of filling the gap with expanding foam, cutting to shape then fibre glassing to cover and protect the rear arches.

Going well. The expanding foam thing has been done before by various people and cutting it to shape/fibreglassing over it to form inner arches is a great idea. Just check, with a test piece, that the resin doesn't melt the foam, some does, some doesn't.

So did I. Make sure you use the fire rated stuff though. Nothing to do with fires, it is just that the fire stuff is closed cell so shouldn't absorb water.

Yes I will tiger seal everything!!!

Had a bit of a nightmare last night, both rear calipers look like they are shot/ pistons will not compress even though I have a brake caliper release tool!, so I've ordered some re-conditioned ones...more delays arrgghh.

On the upside my coilovers have arrived so I still have jobs to do.

Be carefull with the rear calipers !!
On the back side of them there is a 13/14mm bolt and behind it there is an Allen screw, this is turned to move the piston and adjust the hand brake .
Your calipers may be fine, have you tried the Allan key/screw?

I will check them again tomorrow (playing cricket tonight) may well be the issue, many thanks : )

The rear discs were already in a pretty bad way tbh and the pads that are on are not even 50% worn which is another factor that makes me wanna change the caliper out but if they free up via the allen key rout I way well just save the new calipers for the future.

Criket god I wish, been getting married over in Poland, In total I have 5 Polish wedding to go to this summer...oh and I am in the process of buying a new house! So unfortunatley time with my Tribute project is limited at the moment.

Still plodding on, bought at set of Rota BM8's for the build and the back end is almost sorted out ready for primer.

http://www.rotashop.co.uk/rota-bm8_c33741_270452.htm

Hopefully I will get some time in August between another 2 polish weddings

upload some fresh pics when I get a chance

Adam, I completely understand (except the large volume of polish weddings) I have done it around the other way got married last year bought a house and moved in 6 weeks later and 6 weeks after that started a new job - now I feel i have got over last year that i would apply some self inflicted pressure and do a kit car this year.

Hey Adam
I found that my handbrake was rubbish and calipers were tight. people just keep tightening the cables to make the hand brake better. Slacken the cable on rear of handbrake lever, slacken off the 2 rear handbrake cables so the handbrake arms on the calipers are all the way back. . Tighten the rear cables until the arm just starts to move on each side. Adjust the pads forward till the disc locks then back off enough til they can turn .Tighten the handbrake lever end until its gives 5 or 6 clicks.check each disk again and adjust pads so not to tight. Because the arms now have room to move your handbrake and rear brakes will be much better..
