Default Insurance company wobble - Register the change of vehicle with the DVLA

Just got an unnerving call from the insurance company about my repairs.

They use the Glass guide to assess the value of the car. According to their database my car is a standard Z3 and so the cost of repairs made it a Cat B write off.

I explained it was modified and they said that they did not consider modifications to enhance the value of a car and it was registered as a Z3 so would be valued accordingly.

Fortunately I have a letter from the DVLA stating that they have re-registered it as a Z300S Replica. I sent a scan of the letter and a couple of photos.

The insurance company have agreed that they will reconsider the situation as it has clearly had its value increased and so is no longer a write off.

If I hadn't re-registered the car then even with the agreed value from my insurance company there would have been a real battle.

Did you insure it as modified?

Good reminder, telling the insurance company everything and getting agreed value is a must.

Back in the 80s I had and absolutely mint series 1 landy before they were worth £12k (it had been kept in storage by the fire dpt). I got hit 3 times and had to bargain very hard with the insurance companies even to get them to contribute to replacement parts, no chance of getting them to do the repairs.

I have told the insurance company it was modified and I have re-registered it with the DVLA.

With the insurance I used Adrian Flux and specifically chose a policy that would allow me to modify it. When I first insured it the car was standard. At renewal I changed the details thankfully
