Default Wing Mirrors.

Hi Guys.

Now what would seem a simple job of two holes, two bolts. But what is worrying me is when the SVA inspector whacks it in the test (to test fold in on impact), the fibreglass body is going to get damaged with the bolts.

Cheers

Make sure you fit them with a plate behind.

I'm considering making a plate off the screen (roll bar) to mount the mirrors. Not looked at it properly yet though, as bodywork not fitted. This will place them more like you see on a 'normal' car.

Hi John,

I modified mine.......I drilled out the rivet assy that allows the mirror to fold and replaced it with a shallow head nyloc & shallow head bolt.

This then allows you to set the force at which the mirror folds....you can adjust it (and then threadlock to be sure) so that bodywork damage doesn't occur.....this way you don't need a plate behind the mount, just big washers.

Hi rich.

Did you get your mirrors form Marlin?

The mirrors I got supplied by Marlin is by the Mirror company. The mirror adjustment is on a ball and socket type arrangement. Come to think of it, with this arrangement, the mirrors can't "fold" flat. So they won't be SVA complient will they?

John,

Yeh...mine from Marlin. there are 2 articulation joints.....the ball and socket from the mirror body to the 'stalk'...then at the bottom of the 'stalk' there is a single axis pivot to allow the 'fold back'....it was this pivot I modified.

Hi Rich.

Ah I see the bit you mean now. God it's stiff. I tried "folding" it just with my two hands and can't move it. Where did you get the shallow head nylock and bolt? B&Q do them?

...local engineering supplies trade counter.

Alternatively, take your trusty hacksaw to some standard fasteners and then paint afterwards.
