no plate light, does size matter

i want to fit either an early mini or beetle no plate light surround.they are on the large size and protude out about 3inches,is this an iva fail,also is a reversing lamp required for the test,cheers guys

The protrusions are OK as long as they are rounded correctly (my spare wheel failed because the alloys had some bits which weren't radiused enough??!!). They also check the size of the number plate space and yes, you do need a reversing lamp.
