I've had to divert attention to Vanessa for a short while, sorting the brakes, handbrake etc as I'm hoping for an MoT as soon as I get the V5 back (Don't ask...DVLA holding things up again but all sorted now).
Back on to Cordelia. I've just got a pair of harnesses so can get the fixing points in then the walls can be bonded. The seats are coming in from the USA but are now 'in country' so I can get the back harness fixing in once I've found seat central.
Yes, DVLA check next Tuesday (Same day as Mr T) so I'll let you all know if there were any hiccups there.
All in all, lots of projects on the go and making progress on all of them

Just got back from a successful DVLA check:

So Cordelia is now officially a Cordite
The inspector did ask whether the chassis had stamped numbers but the explanation of 'triumph didn't do that' and showing him the plate:

did the trick and he walked away happy.
A very easy process (as it should be) and if any customers are having problems in their area, I'll be happy to arrange a check over here in Preston for a small consideration.

My Scimi has no VIN plate and the numbers on the suspension turret are illegible. I suspect this may cause issues for me. Any suggestions?
I have paperwork, one of the original number plates and contact with the last registered owner.

Andy, congratulation, good to hear we have somebody sensible thats a bit closer than Bournemouth.

WCA, you could always buy a VIN plate and get the correct numbers stamped on. Would probably save you a bit of hassle on the inspection.

That's great to hear, as you know the opinion is different at my centre, but I'm sure we can get over that!

Also, Sheffield are saying they won't do the examination until the car has an MoT, and that this is the same for all centres. Clearly this was not the case for you! Can you clarify if your examiner said anything about this? I would like to get the inspection done ASAP to make sure I can register and put my mind at rest!

No, Sheffield have got it ALL wrong
The car can't actually have an MoT as it stands because it differs so much from the original and can't be tested as such (No Wipers etc.) The body has to be affixed to the unmodified chassis and the only thing the tester is interested in is that the VIN and engine numbers match the V5 and the rest of the running gear is as standard.
Sounds like Peterborough have got it right, as do Preston (Test carried out at Kirkham VOSA by DVLA staff due to parking space at their own office).

The rules on this are quite specific and the problem lies in the fact that some offices have never been involved with this type of re-build....in true civil servant style , if in doubt , err on the side of caution applies in these cases...ironically err is the beginning of the word error - and they are wrong !!

I am very lucky as I have a good relationship with my local office and actually liased with them in the early days of the kit to make sure we stayed within the guidlines they set out...my first Sammio didn't conform and I had to make changes and get re-inspected....

The inspection is to determine that the replacement body has been fitted without chassis modification...the test also checks vehicle i.d as this would be a sneaky way to ring a wrong'un....
We got confirmation from DVLA policy that the inspection was to be done when the body was fitted and not when the car was finished....
As Andy says , technically , the MOT centre cannot test a car that doesn't resemble its marque...a ruling brought in to deal with incorrectly registered kit cars , Hot Rods etc...
So the process has to be , body change ...inspection ...detail change....MOT.

Bournemouth follow these rules as advised and are now very familiar with the concept , so don't even query it....Petersfield , it appears , are the same , Preston , again quite happy....

Determining the originality of the chassis and running gear is actually very difficult on a completed car...a bare bones example tells the whole story much easier...

I think it may well be the first Cordite through the DVLA 'mill' but was as painless as the Spyder ones have been.

Two good deliveries today. Firstly, the long awaited V5C arrived for Vanessa so I can go ahead and get it MoT'd (About time too. Bournemouth were holding on to the paperwork for some obscure reason but once I had a chat with them, it went through in a couple of weeks). and the seats for Cordelia have arrived:



As you can see, they fit the standard Spyder/Cordite floor pans very nicely and Gaz is intending fitting them to his G46 demonstrator.

Gaz Davies found a source for them in the USA and has negotiated a good rate for them to Sammio so if anyone would like a pair ordered, email us at the info@sammio.co.uk address and we can sort it out. They come in at £350 per pair including air shipping and I got clobbered £65 for VAT when they arrived (a couple of weeks from door to door). all in all, I reckon we got a nice period look for a good price!

Nice looking alloy seats. Are you going to have them trimmed, go with loose cushions or just plonk the plain old glutius maximus to the metal?

Looks really smart. The folded strip at the back, can you buy that or do you make it? And what was behind that lozenge shape? that you rivetted.

Do you mean the top edge of the aluminium? If so, I picked it up from 'M&M' interior furnishings at Donington but I believe it's available on line.

The oval panel gives access to the fuel tank sender and is secured by a couple of 4mm rivets as I don't think it's likely to be opened very often. The small rectangles behind the seats are there to neaten up the holes for the seat belt fixing rings.

As far as trimming the seats go, I'm just going to have a removable foam pad for a little comfort, probably covered in a blue material to match the belts.

Nice, but at twice the price of the ones Gaz found which are £350 per PAIR I think they are priced for the replica brigade
