Default About to start engine for the first time - any advice?

I am about to start the engine for the first time since the donor was dismantled 3 years ago - anyone have any advice?

My intention was to squirt some oil down the sparkplug holes and turn the engine over first without the plugs fitted to get the oil moving again.

Has anyone got any other suggestions?

Thanks

Robin

Yeah, run it a bit without sparks get the oil running round the engine. If you have a oil pressure gauge attached you can use that to check if the pressure comes up a bit.

This is the video of our engine start:

Or go here http://www.msportster.co.uk/videos.asp and pick engine first run from the video player

You'll need to give it this long for the fuel to get to the injectors. I kinda pumped the throttle a bit but I don't think you need to do that with injection, but open the throttle a bit as it coughs to life to keep it from stopping.

I'm sure someone else will have a more informed reply, I'm just guessing based on what I did.

...agree, but don't use too much oil like I did!
I oiled up my spark plugs and had to take them all out again to clean them which is not fun as the cylinder no. 5 and 6 are pigs to get at.
I put a low value fuse in my fuselink, just in case. (It's still in there)

Otherwise, just cross you fingers and go for it! Have fun.
