Well, nearly 4 years since I posted this and finally someone is going to build and sell something nearly identical.
The company is called
Starkespeedster un USA. they are planning on building 356 Speedster replicas using Boxters as a base. Prices range from 59k to 149k $. I think a little expensive. The finished cars will be named the Starke 357 Revolution Speedster.
