Default Carpet - Any reason not to use house carpet?

Just had the bedroom re-carpeted and have substantial left overs due to the awkward shape. The carpet fitters left them in a bag for us to get rid of.

It is a heavy duty wool/poly mix carpet with some fancy pants stain stopper.

Any reason not to use it in the G46 instead of 'car' carpet?

It is thicker and less flexible but I can live with that. My concern is the wool mix rather than a plastic/rubber carpet.

Anyone got views?

Received wisdom is that it'll rot. Car carpet is supposedly rot proof.

Thanks

We also have half a dozen sheets of pre-shrunk hardboard that was used to cover the floor boards.

As I will probably line the boot with some kind of carpet, is there any reason not to use the hardboard as backing?
