How about using a black cab chassis for a build?
What sort of chassis sponge is recommended to use between the floor/chassis.

That looks more suitable for an off road build Gary! I would use sponge, even closed cell, between floor / body and a chassis personally, if you need anything i would use solid rubber, you can get it in different shore hardness's and the softer stuff is like a very firm foam.

There is a guy over on "Rods n Sods" who has built a number of cars using black cabs.
This was chopped & lowered using an air bag suspension set up.
His current project was chopped another taxi & turned it into a pickup...
Any news from your own build Gary?
Cheers, Paul.

Forgot to say that i had bought a small Ultrasonic cleaner for the carbs when i rebuild them. I have many things in the garage to rebuild and get shotblasted.
and a gearknob, i will cover the cap.

Gary J's Hot Rod moulds
Better buy a lot of body filler as well if you buy one then!

The Hot Rod bodies were / are actually very good . Another example of budget options for home builders , It is worth noting though a finished car is only as good as its builder and their abilities.

I like the product. I don't know if it is stiff enough (flexing), but I like the idea of adding value to the car. Well, at least to some people it would.
Could plywood be the weakest chain in durability of the car? Could be, I'm not sure. Rust could also be a party pooper.
But I'm sure if you take a life cycle costing approach, the extra pounds will pay back. I guess it all comes back to the question how long your car has to last and if you want it to look good during that period or accept that it shows some detoriation (patina?) under way.

I would only use marine ply anyway and this was cheaper, I liked the idea that it wouldn't rot.

My biggest worry was always the floors. It wouldn't take too much moisture to get into the ply to start it rotting from the inside which would require almost a full rebuild to fix. I personally would spend the little extra and go for them as they will last far longer or better still I would go with full size steel floor pans which Ribble can sell if you are unable to fabricate your own.
