I know it's too late for you two guys already, but would it have helped to prefit captive rivnuts under the bottom half of the 'sandwich' plate?

I'm toying with the idea of taking along all the odds and ends of paint i've got in the garage just to put some colour on Skippy for Pat!

Trevor, I really like the low stance of your car. Can you tell me what the ground clearance is? Also, Having never seen the Sammio in person it is difficult for me to get the proper prospective of it. Any way that you could post a side view picture with you standing next to it? Have a good one, John

Hi there John,

The ride height is 15cm front and rear

My progress has been painfully slow over the last month - I've only fitted the instruments and replaced the track rod ends since the last update.

The depressing thing is I can't see my progress picking up soon.

What's causing the delay Trevor?

You seemed to be making such great progress.

Other commitments?

Don't let it get you down, your car looks stunning!

Work commitments......

I have an update though!

The instruments, track rod ends and lights are wired in. (And all working!)

I'm free on Saturday and all next weekend too, so really hope to push on and make some progress on the Sammio.

Trevor, we are all with you, time to put the kettle on, I suspect Skippy's thermostate didn't help. I'll be ordering my bits at 09:00 by phone going to try ANG in Birmingham prices don't seem to bad for what I need, I'll let everyone know how they perform, all the best, breath in through the nose out through mouth, big breaths " yeth and I'm only fourteen" cheers PAT

I had the same problem with my thermostat housing, one of the bolts sheared off flush (no pun intended) and I had to carefully drill it out and retap the hole.

That happened while I was fitting a new thermostat and gasket before ever allowing the engine to warm up. I ran some of these cars when they were reasonably new and found the thermostats to be a weak point so I'd strongly recommend anyone buying any classic car to replace the thermostat and flush the cooling system before venturing onto the road.

When I prized mine out with a screwdriver it looked like it was made out of modelling clay and the new one only cost a few pounds. Hopefully modern antifreeze will stop the replacement seizing up with crud.

Anyway Trevor, don't get down in the mouth, just look forward to the day when you're barreling along the back roads with the wind in your hair and the flies in your teeth...

That's bad luck matey, but nothing that can't be fixed!

I hope you've got heating in that garage of yours? I was out in mine yesterday and I think that it's time to dig out my heaters and sensible dad jumpers again

I bought all my parts from Rimmer Bros

I highly recommend them, everything always arrives next working day and it's always in stock too

Dave - No heating as its a rented garage with no electricity, just me and my small generator (and thick jumpers!)

Feel more optimistic this evening, every bolt / nut I touched yesterday seemed to break.

I know the feeling: three quarters of the nuts 'n' bolts I've had to undo either sheared off or needed cutting or drilling out.

All part of the challenge though!

The Sammio is now mechanically complete, update here

Jobs for tomorrow include fitting the carpet, seat belts and getting everything ready for the seats. Oh, and changing the oil and filter too.

Getting close now!
