Default Trevor Bennett's Build

Today I've fitted the bonnet, details here

Now that's fitted I took a picture of the car here, and I'm really really pleased!

I collected the kit five weeks ago yesterday, so to have got it looking like this so quickly is great.

It's looking VERY good matey!

I'm jealous that you've already got your bonnet done, as i've got to recess my bulkhead in order to fit my 15" wheels and lower my radiator before i can do mine.

I've got to agree with you that these really are a nice quick build and due to that it draws you in and keeps things moving really quickly especially if, like me, you have limited spare time.

Seeing those pics of it on the original steel wheels, i reckon that if you were building one of these on a REAL tight budget <cough>Pat</cough> then you could most probably just get away with a quick lick of silver paint on those and it'd actually look quite nice!

Hi Mulberry,

I've got a swing sprint set up at the rear, along with a 40mm lowering block, and I removed 80mm from the front springs.

You're right about the weather here, less than 5% of build time has been rained off, I've been very, very lucky so far. Even the DVLA inspection was hot and sunny!

Trevor from the "Costa Del Reading", Berkshire.......

Tonight I've fitted the instruments

Such a shame the evenings are starting to pull in now, I was able to work outside on the car till 10pm not so long ago, tonight by 8.20pm it was just as dark as 10pm 6 weeks ago.........

I'm getting the Spyder sprayed with the Sammio factory down in Poole. It's going off for paint and prep work in 3 weeks!

I have sold the Mojo on, I had it on the road for 3 years and did over 10,000 miles in it. I felt I'd taken it as far as I could, having done some trackdays in it too, and was offered a really good price, so sold it on.

Had a mk1 MX5 after that, ran it for a year or so. It was totally reliable, and a great car handling wise, but just lacked something hard to describe, it lacked character I suppose. Thought about re-bodying one, then found the Spyder! The rest as they say...........

Can you slow down a bit matey, i've only been away on holiday for a week and it looks like you've overtaken me already!

Any chance you can post a close up of your front roll bar mounting brackets please. i've fitted the new after market one and my brackets don't go all the way to the mounting plate without squashing the rubber completely out of shape! So i wanted to see how yours went on.

ta.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Great to have you back in fold again!

I think I know what your issues are with the mounts.

There are two sizes available, on ever so slightly smaller version for the Herald anti roll bar (with smaller rubbers too) and then both the larger rubbers and mounts for the spitfire ones. I actually had to file open the mounting holes to get the new mounts to fit - BUT, with the correct rubbers and metal mounts there was no deformation whatsoever.

The wrong parts possibly?

Just done what could be my last update for a couple of weeks.

The car goes off 2 weeks today for spraying, and sadly I've got very little spare time between now and then, including a small break away. Expect very few updates for a couple of weeks.

I received my V5 reg document today, 3 weeks exactly after the inspection!

Dave - I take it you've got yours now too?
