Screen fitment?

Has anyone got any good photos they could mail me of their screen fitment?
I am about to fit mine and am unsure of what rubbers go where?
Do I need to fit any rubbers before the screen is bonded in? or dod I just sit the screen straight onto the adhesive

Craig,

Bit of a daunting moment for me fitting the screen...one shot deal.

I didn't use any rubber sealing strips in the end (but I know others have).

1) Dry fit screen and check packing / gaps are even (I packed teh screen away from the scuttle base by about 5mm)

2) Tigerseal on roll cage & scuttle (big enough bead to seat screen on

3) 'Hinge screen' onto bead from the scuttle edge

4) Tape into position and fill bead gaps with Tigerseal

5) Shape bead (quick cos it dry's fast and sticks like s**t to a blanket)

5) Finish off scuttle front edge with silicone (easier to shape)

6) Fit screen cap to hide any excess sealant

I did mine much like Rich, but used standard automotive window bond. Like he said, it sticks like you wouldn't imagine, and goes off surprisingly quickly, even when it's cold out.

I dry fitted my screen several times, until I was happy I'd a) lifted the front end of the dash enough, and b) added 3 little fibre glass feet around the dash groove for the windscreen to sit on.

Take your time, and be very very careful not to crack the screen. Mine was an utter swine to remove when I chipped the screen edge, which then turned into a tasty crack.

Cheers Guys, it seems that both of you have opted for not using the screen rubber? any reasons for this?

My current thinking is that the rubber that fits along the bottom of the screen would tidy things up! I seem to remember that the marlin demo car had no rubber and the adhesive looked unsightly.

Hi Craig.

Marlin fitted my screen. When it came back from Marlin, the lower silicon was full of holes. So dug it all out and redone it. I think I have rubber going around the sides and across the top. I'll take off the screen capping tomorrow and have a look. I'll take some photos as well.

I have a rubber that I presume fits on the bottom of the screen with a flange that would sit over the adhesive

Hi Craig.

Bottom of screen. As above, I dug the holey sealant out and redone it. The edging of the surround has some rubber trim.

Drivers side.

Passenger side.

Be carefull when drilling for the surround. It's easy to catch the windscreen and crack it.

Under surround there is a big length of rubber. It looks like it has tried to be siliconed where it meets the rollbar.

Cheers John for the photos thats a big help! So I should have two pieces of rubber one for top of screen and one too cover the capping edge?

Is the rubber that covers the screen surround just large u-channel?
if so what size?

I dont have this piece and need to order it from somewhere

Hi Craig.

Marlin did not supply the one for the screen surround. Only the big one for the sreen.

I got the surround one from one of the shows. Or CBS.

Hi Craig.

Yes capping is broke. Bit dissapointed at it. That's how it came from Marlin. Not sure why.

The only reason I can think of, but nobody else has had this problem, is to bend the surround around the rollcage to get the angle downwards.

So glad in some ways getting the body done by Marlin, but in others, see there is no perfect way of doing it. Even for the pros doing it every day.

Doing Merlinman's body after mine, kept having to tell him, "The body is not perfect fit!". Spent hours on it before giving up and accepting best fit. though not great.

Though looking at Rich's, he done a perfect job.

Rich's is good, that there is no doubt, but it is easier to align the non-door version I would imagine. If you look at his car closely, you realise that he has had to accept compromises too, such as the level of his rear bulkhead capping.

Every car I've looked at has had different obstacles, and owing to the varying dimensions of all the parts, no two cars can adopt the same solution. The trick is to hide your known bodges as best you can.
