VVC at last
Some of you will know for some time I have agonising over should I update from the 1600 K to the 1800 VVC, well the plunge was taken and now I have completed the switch. I picked up a low mileage 200 BRM engine and box, and
I must say I am pleased with the results.
I did originally consider using the PG1 box, but decided to stay with the R65 box, this served to enable me to use the existing drive shafts and gear linkages. I am not interested in high speed on track ect, to the slightly lower ratios on the R65 will benefit me low down, at least that’s the theory.
I did have an issue before with clutch slip, so my concerns were increasing the power would exacerbate the already annoying problem. I contacted Helix auto sports and they made me a clutch cover, they felt the standard clutch plate would be alright to keep, and early testing shows they were right, albeit an expense I had not catered for, one worth while.
I know Big Rich was exploring the upgrade, the wiring was not an issue, the engine plug was the same and operated all it had to do at the front tacho, Speedo, warning lights and 5as ect, although I must say the engine was around the same age as the 1600, that may have helped
