Default Waterless Coolant

Has anyone thought about using waterless coolant, or is it an expensive gimmick.

At £60 for 5litre plus £30 for flush is it worth it, even by Northumbrian Water standards it seems expensive.

Thoughts please, also is it actually any good.

The one I have been looking at is Evans Classic 180.

All I'd say based on my experiences from running my Sammio for a year are, are you really, really sure you don't have any leaks in your cooling system and that you dont need to change or replace any more pipes... as if you do then you'll be getting through a lot more of this than you expect

I every order every pipe / hose / clamp etc, so the system should be water tight or waterless tight.

Just not sure if this this stuff will work as good as it says.

It is good under extreme conditions but not totally convinced of its worth under road conditions. We ran it in our Avon racecar for a season and did notice a slight drop in temperatures logged, especially in races mid summer, unfortunately a shunt meant it all ended up on the grass at Caldwell park, we never got round to replacing it.

Theoretically it should be better as you shouldn't get any localised hotspots after a good blat and then switching the engine off due to the higher boiling point so the chance of blowing a headgasket should be reduced.

I've been thinking of trying it on the Shelsley but mine does run hot as it's midengined and tinkered with.

I can see a few benefits, no pressure in the system due to lack of water boiling and fewer corrosion worries especially if the car is to be left for some time. However I would also suggest that the cooling system would have to be known to be very good before putting this stuff in, no previous corrosion to narrow the galleries and a good water [sic] pump as this stuff is more viscous.
