Default Drum brake adjuster

Hello all, I'm new here, I have just aquired my first kit car, it's a ford scorehill magic on a 1980 ford cortina chassis, wanting to adjust the drum brakes I've found no adjuster of any kind in the drum, though the drum and shoes are only two years old, my question is, can I substitute the spreader bar at the top just below the piston for a serrated wheel type of adjuster, or can another type of adjuster work, there's no adjustment on the hand brake cable or assembly either, Thanks in advance for any help.
