Red face Stupid Question No.103!

OK by now I guess that most contributors to this forum will have realised that I am no car mechanic. So I appoligise in advance for posting another dumb qestion:

Which way around do I plumb up the radiator. ie does the feed from the top of the cylinder head go into the bottom of the rad or is it vice versa?

cheers

Mike

Default Radiator

Mike

For the 103rd time, there is no such things as silly questions, if your not sure we all will try to help.

The top of the radiator is fed from the cylinder head, the mindset being as the thermostat opens allowing the hot water to pass through from the engine, it enters the top of the rad, and is cooled on its way down.

Atlthough not part of the question, I and others have found, when you fill the system with water, try and have the expansion tank as high as possible, I unbolted mine and taped it to the roll cage. If you are not in to much of rush fill it up and leave it overnight, and top up in the morning. It took me a while to get the air out, raising the tank was the answer.

Steve thanks for the help. I can crack on today. I wasn't thinking of filling the systen up with water /antifreze mix at this time as I am a long way from engine start. In fact the next job is the wiring including wiring up the Marlin 5AS loom. Not something I am looking frward to.
Anyway I suppose I might as well fill the coolant system now as it will allow time to get the air out and stop any corrosion. Plenty to do.
Once again thanks.

Mike
