Castle Coombe Report
Hi, well took mine to the Action Day at Castle Coombe today.
Met Jerry aka Big Fella...Jerry you gotta finish yours for next year!
After 15 months hard work it was ace to try her out.
The straight line performance is devastating...but then came a few corners and chicanes...hmmm...
There is no doubt that for track use I need track day tyres...as I got it sideways on a couple of occasions but she recovers well so no spins!!!
Biggest issue is the brakes...the stock rear callipers just don't do enough...so it's time to get the brake issues sorted.
Another issue was engine oil temperature that rose to 120 degrees C, so the Oil Cooler needs to be re-located into an air stream to stop that. I also reckon the pump has to come off and one of the ports will need to be welded up to ensure the oil flows thru the cooler all the time...more on this later.
I struggled a bit trying to get down to second gear on a couple of occasions at the chicanes...this is down to the design of the shift cables so that needs a major improvement.
Other than that I think the guys in their Evo's were pretty impressed whilst I gunned it down the straights away from them...
Lots of issues to resolve to make it a serious track day car however...
What a day.
John

Sounds like you had some serious fun John. Are you bringing the car to stonleigh next weekend?
My 110 BHP K-Series car is quick, so I just can't imagine how quick your Turbo version is, no wonder it was a handful on the track...

Dan,
Fantastic day. But I can't make Stoneleigh this year...grrrrrr...
The EMS reads about 240bhp at the moment with the Autronic SMC, so that's not bad, as I said the straight line acceleration is awesome :-)
Lot's to sort out though...

Threads like this are exactly what I need to really get me motivated to build my car!
"Other than that I think the guys in their Evo's were pretty impressed whilst I gunned it down the straights away from them..."

Looks like you have a great time mate. Can't wait for my turn.
My local test track is Brands Hatch so that will be my local shake down when she's done.

I Havent been on here for a while but just had the extreme pleasure of watching that vid clip.... Seeing the Exi pull away from that Evo V1 on the straights has put the BIGGEST cheesey grin on my face you have no idea....
My Turbo kit will be going in for SVA in 2 weeks (24thMay) and i'm counting the seconds even more so after seeing that clip...
Well done on completing yours John... I have every respect for your determination to finish the build.... I have cheated a little.... ?1?!?!?
ATB 2 all....

Hi Andy.
Don't worry about cheating. We all cheat in some ways to get these built. Perhaps you can help me cheat by popping down so I can compare notes and photos if that's ok?

Would love to mate, I can then give you the full story of exactly how much i have cheated... ! ! ! ! ! !
Once the car has gone through SVA on 24th, i cant see it being more than another week after that and my baby will FINALLY be free. I'll then arrange a time with you to drive her down to sunny Basildon and take you out for a spin and a good ol chin wag yeah?
Any help i can be i am more than happy to give... If you need any help with your build while i'm there then just say the word. As long as ya kettle works we have no problem....

I bet you can't wait. I can't wait to see her. Would love to see you and the car and go for a spin.
Keetle is always working mate. And if it's a nice day perhaps a little barbie.
Lots of little bits and time consuming bits that need doing.
