Default Wire wheels

I am building a c type jag replica
it is to have period look wire wheels on splined hubs with eared spinners
(one spinner per wheel)
I have been told (but not confirmed) that wire wheels with spinners will fail an iva test because wheels have to be secured to the hub by more than one fixing ie 4 studs or bolts etc
And wire wheels have one fixing the spinner in the middle
Has anyone had experiance of this being the case
Many thanks

I'd take a look at the IVA manual:

http://www.minimag.co.uk/files/2011/...l-May-09-1.pdf

I've had a brief look, and can't see anything that says that the wheels must be attached by more than one fixing...

But it does mention this:

project from the plan form by more than 30mm
I'd take this to say that center lock spinners are fine, so long as they don't project pass the body work more than 30mm - but that's my personal opinion and not VOSA's. To be completly sure, you could give Mark Vickers from VOSA Swansea a ring on 01792 454 354. He should be able to confirm one way or the other.

Cheers

I have also been a little worried about this and read it as making eared spinners difficult due to the radius of the ears.

I am planning on using MG octagonal nut spinners on mine anyway now.

Has anyone found a way to 'lock' or secure wirewheels from theft?

Bigfoot,

Did you get anywhere with this? Anything from the horse's ass.... I mean, mouth (DVLA)?

You are correct i got no where with dvla
(horse's ass sums them up when it came to registration and id check
6 weeks wait for id check then another 7 weeks wait for the registration to be completed an for the issue of the tax disc and numberplate certificate)
However i passed the iva test with the wire wheels on the car i used the "earless spinners" octagonal type to get it through the iva test

Ah - good news. I shall do the same and maybe switch to 'ears' at a later date...! Where did you source your wheels and do you recommend them?
My kit uses Cortina front uprights (+ 4 stud hubs) and the Jag XJ rear axle (5 stud hubs) and I was wondering if I can kill 2 bids with one stone by using the same wire wheels on all four corners but have 4 stud splined adaptor hubs on the front and 5 stud ones on the back...? This would avoid having to modify the front hubs to match the back.

My wheels and hubs were supplied by my kit supplier
Realm engineering i dont know where they got them from sorry
You could try contacting them (www.realmengineering.com)
My hubs are not using stud to splined adaptors
My front and rear suspension is from my donor xj6
To Which i fitted splined hubs completely removing the stud type hubs
The hubs must have been made to fit the jag stub axles /drive shafts
Hope this helps
