Default paint

We're not ready for paint yet, but its a little something thats been nagging away in the back of my mind for a while now.

How much, what quality etc. A few months back in kit car mag there was a Cobra build and the paint was done by a guy near Newbury. Thats not too far away from me. However he's expensive the Cobra paint was 4000GBP which I would have though is show quality. I would hope the Sportster would be a bit cheaper than that, but still I dont think it needs to be something that good! Will need to research some alternatives too.

What are you plans for paint?

try to use standox paint, its apparently one of the best paints on the market and is what i had the phantom painted in.
To give you an idea the phantom cost £1300 all in, but that was mates rates, i know of a local FG specialist painter that did the silver demo phantom for £3k.
Expect to pay around £70/litre for decent paint. iirc there were about 3 - 4 litres used on the phantom.

oh and before you paint it get them to put all FG parts through a bake cycle, it helps to get any air out of the gel coat before it gets painted.

Hmm yeah I was expecting to pay somewhere between 2 and 4k for a good job! Did you get any choice in customising the colour or did you just give them the paint code and thats what they went with?

well i wanted the bm colour so just gave him the paint code. But you could have your own colour mixed, personally though i wouldnt recomend it, makes life difficult in the future, at least if its a standard colour you have a chance of finding a touch up pen, and geting more paint the same colour in the future, custom is a lot more awkward.

that is true, think I'll just stick to the standard colour. I've got a dark blue metallic BMW colour in mind that we like.
