Gents,
We've just been to our local DVLA office in Preston and, as is customary, we asked about the future of the 'Rebody Checks' our kits go through. As it happens, they have, just last Friday, received a communication that clarifies the position so I thought it a good idea to let you all know as soon as possible:
As of October 1st, the rebody checks will, for a period of 6 Months, be handled by VOSA at the offices that currently do VIC checks (That's not all offices so check out your nearest office using this link:
https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-identity-check-site)
There will continue to be no charge for the check as it is funded by the previous increase in rates for initial registration. You will initially apply via Swansea for an appointment, submitting your V5 and the Form V627/1. On receipt, they will send you a phone number to make your appointment where the check will be carried out in the usual way.
Note I mentioned that this was for a 6 Month period. During this time, DVLA will be putting the process out to tender where, along with VOSA, private companies will be invited to submit their qualifications and a decision based on suitability will be made. Knowing DVLA at present, I would expect this 6 Month period to be extended.
So there we are. It's still a little 'Wooly' but we have another opportunity to quiz our guy on another check in a week or two (Before the end of September) so if we hear more, I'll post it here first.
