Default Why no V5

Looking on ebay there seem to be a few kitcars for sale with no V5. Why, is it because the identity has been transfered to another vehicle? What is the situation if one of these is reassembled and SVA'd. I know cloning onto pre 72 (tax free) Landrovers is a problem with some very strange so called pre 72s appearing. Does this happen with kit cars too?

If you build a kit car according to the rules it does not get a V5 until it has passed IVA and been registered by DVLA.

If it has used a donor car then that vehicle should have had a V5, but when it was finally scrapped/disposed of then the V5 should have been returned to DVLA by one route or another.

So the overall result is no V5.

On the other hand if you kept the V5 from the Donor then you will then end up using a V5 for, say, a Sierra as your Robin Hood Lotus 7 look alike. That ain't legal, plod and others would take exception to it.

The only exception is if the chassis is re-used (like the Sammio using Herald chassis, or beach buggies using VW chassis), in which case the V5 can be used.

Even using the original chassis doesn't always guarantee retention of the original V5 on every occasion.....our 550 kits involved shortening the chassis , so that rendered them modified and therefore subject to IVA ....Same with SWB Buggies as well.

The vehicle has to retain 8 points on a list of original components - the chassis is worth 5 , so axles etc are important as well...

Our Sammio builds are well within , just a body change ....we still need to submit them for an inspection to get the logbook changed from Triumph to Sammio , its a free test , takes about 20 minutes and keeps things correct....
