Hello Mick, and everyone else, well I had fully intended to go to Shelsey Walsh in the XK, but the day before, I had my first break-down.
This really peed me off, as I had by then covered over 600 trouble-free miles, and the car was performing well.
The engine stuttered and it felt like it was running on just two cylinders, really miss-firing and sounding like chitty chitty bang bang!
I was 15 miles from home but against all odds managed to nurse it back, albeit flat-out at 20 mph.
I have:
Re-newed the plugs, no change in performance
Re-newed the leads and dizzy cap, no change
Re-newed the points, capacitor and rotor-arm, no change
I ordered a coil, which should be here this morning.
The dizzy was firm, and had not come loose.
I am running out of ideas, and if the coil does not do the trick, a compression test is next.
The engine will start reluctantly, but the miss-fire is so bad, its hard to keep it running!
I will report in due course!
So I went to Shelsey in my day-car.
Like Mick said, it was a really good day with loads of classics/kits/specials, and all manner of interesting cars.
The flying display rated as probably the best I've ever seen, it was a small bi-plane, and the pilots skill and control was phenomenal.
My pathetic photo is just that! The pilot would be disgusted too see it!
Hear are some others as well:
