[QUOTE=Charles;9999]

I have never tried to do business with a more unproffessional and uncommunicative company in my life. I figured three strikes and your out, so I have cancelled and asked for my deposit back.

Interesting reading about this and your deposit senario..... Hmmm spoke to another builder who will remain anonymous in same situation....let us all know how you get on??

An Update....

Was rung by Terry this morning. The salent points of the update were:

Apparently it was only Terry who was off over Christmas the rest remained working.
The build is still behind, the concrete walls need to be put in place followed by the roof followed by the floor and the electrics.
I gather they have been very poorly let down by their contractors.
Terry was mentioning it should all be in place by end of Jan.
Terry has committed to contacting all customers weekly on an Monday to give them an update.

I did try suggesting that they may need to consider alternative courses such as temporary accomodation to do jobs that dont need the heavy machinary, but they dont seem too keen on this approach at the moment.

Personally its getting rather close to the wind for me, as the absolute latest I can really take delivery of the kit is mid-feb. I think it will all depend on progress over the next two weeks, or steps towards increasing my confidence such as starting some form of temporary operation.

Thanks to all for your commiserations and interest. In answer to an earlier request, I recieved the following from Marlin today...

Dear Charles,

Thank you for your email. I would like to clarify the situation regarding
both the building work and Marlin Sports Cars as a company.

As with any growing company circumstances dictate that things change in
order to progress both commercially and financially. This has necessitated
our move to a purpose built premises in order to continue developing our
products and support our customers which is of paramount importance to us.
When any building work is involved there are inevitable delays which are
caused by the planning process, legal issues and other suppliers from which
none of us are immune. It is unfortunate that the purchase of your kit
coincided with this period when circumstances beyond our control meant that
we could not deliver your kit when anticipated. As a company we continued
working up until Christmas so as to get as much done as we possibly could
followed by the period between Christmas and New Year when our contractors
were on shut down.

I am sorry that this has caused the delays you have experienced however
Marlin as a company will emerge stronger and better able to support our
customers in every way. I understand your reasons for not wishing to wait
any longer and will return your deposit monies. I would like to take this
opportunity to wish you every success with whatever car you now decide to
build.

Kind Regards

Make of that what you will!

Does anyone who frequents this forum live close to Marlin's new factory. It would be interesting to eyeball it and perhaps take some photo's so we can see the progress for ourselves.

I hope their prediction on build time doesn't follow that for building my Marlin or the factory might not reopen until next year (2009) lol.

Default marlin sports cars response

I think this was well covered in our reply to Charles.

We are actively engaged in building our new, bigger and improved manufacturing site to satisfy the demand for orders that have been placed to produce cars before the end of this year. Kits, racing and building cars will remain a vitally important part of Marlin's expanding business activities.

During the office move last year we experienced a lot of problems with our phone lines and broadband because BT had to apply for planning permission to dig up the road and put the new lines in, all of this took far longer than anticipated. We did everything we could to speed up the process but at the end of the day we were in the hands of other organisations. As a direct result of this, it understandably caused some customers considerable frustration due to the lack of response from us. We can only apologise for any inconvenience caused but this only happened for the reasons explained above and is not representative of the normal service we provide. We are pleased to report that all of these issues have now been resolved. In order to prevent anything like this happening in future we are currently setting up a separate dedicated email address support@marlinsportscars.co.uk - any emails sent to this address will be dealt with within 24 hours and a receipt confirmation will be sent to you immediately. Please note that this address is to only be used when you need specific technical advice or have a query or comment that can not be dealt with by either the dedicated technical help line number 07748 235630, the office no. 01363 773772 or by emailing Terry on terry@marlinsportscars.co.uk.

If we get asked questions via this email address we will be happy to answer
them in a way that could then be published on line to help others and may
well also use on our FAQ pages on web site.

This will then be superseded by a dedicated forum, which is currently being worked on and we plan to have this live by Spring 2008. We welcome any comments about this and suggestions of categories you would like to see up there. If any of you budding builders would like to be in at the beginning of this do please let me know.

Kind Regards
Terry & Mark

It is probably obvious to most now that although not an offical Marlin forum, Terry does keep her eye on here from time to time.

I have been talking to Terry this morning.

The build is not her favourite subject. Needless to say, they are having some issues - if not the weather it's the suppliers or tradespeople.

Terry was also keen to address any issues people are having with orders and builds etc. However as none of us tend to use our real names, she cannot trace the issues and correspond them with the Marlin orders.

Terry knows most of the regulars (as I think we've all told her, who we are). Could the newer people please let indentify yourselves (to Marlin).
