Default Got to love Halfords........not

Just thought i would share with the collective.
Not actually having picked up the donor spitfire 1500 for my Cordite yet due to extensive trailer repairs i decided last Monday to pop into halfords and pick up a triumph spitfire haynes manual, always makes good reading (sad i know) unfortunately they didnt have one in stock in Shrewsbury so spoke to the young lady on the counter:
Me: "can you order me a haynes manual for a Triumph Spitfire please"
She: tap tap on computer "Yes sir we have 31 of those in stock at head office, it will be here tomorrow"

Busy week ensued so didnt get back there until Saturday on the way back from the workshop. Same girl on the parts desk.

Me: "Hello, i ordered a haynes manual for a Triumph Spitfire on monday is it in yet?"
She: "I'll just go and look"

Couple of minutes pass, young lady returns from the store room

She: "Here you go sir", hands me haynes manual
Me: "Last time i checked you dont spell Triumph S_u_p_e_r_m_a_r_i_n_e!"

Needless to say i aquired a refund and have just ordered one from Amazon.

FANTASTIC! Sorry about the mirth but waiting in Stoneleigh car park for gates to open it's certainly brightened my day

Marvellous, and I bet Canley Classics can get you all the parts you need to build one within 24 hours. If you can fathom their pedestrian web-site.

Im with Baz on this one, keep it and build one!

Actually homebuilt spitfire (aircraft) kits sell for upwards of £100k for a 80% or 90% scale replica so would be worth thinking about if you have the ability. I would happily volounteer to test fly it!

Default Test drive?

If you build it, my son is a Pilot in the RAF, and worked with the BBMF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight for a while. I could ask him if there are any "spare" Spitfire bits just lying around next time he goes to RAF Conningsby. I could ask if theres anything going begging at RAF Waddington. AWACS, Tornado? whatever

We could ask Mike to lay up a fuselage or two. Shouldn't take him long. Just make sure to specify round wheelarches for the undercarriage or you'll get square ones...

With todays prices i'd be concerned about fuel consumption and the avialability of Rolls Royce Merlin engines I've got a Triumph 1500 spare in the garage if anyone is interested,,,, Biggles.

Somebody, somewhere is planning to put a Merlin into a G46. For a bit more poke. After they've moved the driver's seat so they can sit behind the rear number plate...

Just seen a decommissioned motor from an SR-71 on ebay. I suppose you could always 'chip' it if that's not powerful enough. And I bet there's somechav with a 'Max Powered' Corsa who'd claim to have more bhp...
