Default Insurance for a day ?

Hi all

Does anyone know if I can get Insurance for one day ' on ' the day I need it ?

Thinking I will be either buying a motor off Ebay or from an auction where it would be less hassle if I could legally drive it home.

Rather than the expense of a beaver tail to move it , which would involve 2 journeys if I bought at auction ?

regards Paul

Hi, yes you can, I have done it several times for about £25. It was with Aviva through an online company I think called 'Dayinsure'. I printed off the insurance to carry with me so that if stopped I could instantly produce and be on my way.

Don't forget also that the Road Tax can no longer be "transferred" to you! So you have also to tax the vehicle before you drive it away! Can be done on line, even on a Sunday I believe, but an extra pain all the same. Peter.

Hi all

Thanks for replies...

Things have changed a little since this enquiry ?

I have been given a car only 8 miles from where I live.

However it failed an MOT in 1978 and has been sat in the same garage ever since !

So not drivable needs trailer and winch.

Peter

As I understand it tax is stopped when the DVLA receive through the post [ ] a change of ownership and you do not need to own the car to tax it ? so vehicle could be insured and driven home legally ? Then paper work posted off ?

regards Paul
