Default Non Sva Condition

As someone tempted to start on a build and having read nearly all the threads thati can, i have a number of stupid questions, that hopefully one of you more experienced Sammioans may have.

here goes

1, what bits need to be retained to enable the DVLA changeover?

2, through all the builds i see cars with the chassis rails sticking out at the rear, why is this? how come you don't cut it off straight away.

3. will any year spitfire chassis do the job?

4. I have access to a spitfire chassis in good nick, could i use this and still use a donor spitfire for all the bits? - would like to get a chassis cleaned and fixed and then just transfer the bits from car to chassis, would this cause a problem with the registering with DVLA, Isn't it the same as getting a new chassis?

thanks for the help in advance, some great builds and ideas in the forum, keep it up.

final question, who is the nearest to Kettering/northampton, i would like to come and see one in the flesh if possible.

Hi there TR7MGB, welcome to the Sammio forum.

I'll have a go at answering some of your questions, in order:

1/ There's a 'points' system used by DVLA to decide if a rebody (which all Sammio's are) can keep its original registration. You need to use the original unaltered chassis (or a new replacement) plus the major mechanical components. The link below contains full details.

http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum.../dg_180218.pdf

2/ The ends of the rear outriggers (and the front cross member 'horns') have to stay on so the chassis qualifies as 'unaltered' on the day of the inspection. If they happen to 'fall off' after the paperwork is completed then this appears to be ok

3/ Can't help you much with this one but as far as I'm aware the Spitfire chassis remained pretty much the same from earliest Spitfire 4 through to late 1500.

4/ This won't be a problem so long as you keep the identity of the car that matches the engine number and transfer the commision plate and body number tag across to the Cordite body as the chassis don't actually have any numbers punched into them.

As for who's closest to Kettering, here's a link to the thread that can tell you that.

Best of luck and welcome again.
