Exhaust
So - Patrick
How long is it going to take to have your custom exhaust made? Are you going for multiple side exit pipes like the green car at Stoneleigh?
Cheers

They've said they need it until the end of the week, it will be geting a side pipe and side exits I'm going over there tommorrow to check on progress - I'm expecting to see a mock up. It will be better than the one at Stoneleigh (IMO of course!!)

And if it looks really good, expect a lot of us to be asking for the design!

Patrick,
I assume that the real pipes will be a larger diameter as well? I only ask as the pipe in the pic looks quite skinny... and 6 into 1 skinny pipe wouldn't be great for gas flow.
I'm sure the exhaust people know what they're doing more than me though!
And it's going to look great!

Dunno to be honest, but those arent the final pipes. I will give them a call tomorrow.
EDIT: I have asked on E30zone

Looking forward to seeing the finished article!

Looking good - if I hadn't already completed my underfloor exhaust I would now certainly be tempted along this route. I assume it's all stainless? Do they polish it when it's finished or is it left in the "as made" state? You can get a fantastic finish on stainless (like the Marlin bumpers) but it is very hard work and requires a proper buffing machine (I believe).

Yeah it will all be stainless and sent off for polishing when it is complete - proper "bling"
I plan on having it ceramic coated on the inside too - that way you can't burn yourself on the headers, which can only be good for SVA!

Well the guys on E30zone we're a little raised eyebrow about length of the headers but the pipe size doesnt seem to be a problem. They are about the same size as the ports which should be fine
They did agree that it will look very cool and sound awesome

I think what I would suggest is to take the first 3 headers into 1 pipe and the second 3 into another pipe and then bring both pipes back to the silencer.
A. It's basically what BMW do
B. It would make a cool looking exhaust look even better!
IMHO of course

I'm going to stick to the 6:1 design The engine has so much torque anyway I dont think it will miss it down low with the weight of the car (I can always do a 2.7 conversion and get all that torque back and more )

Well its been someone of a disappoint end to the day. We went down to look at the progress today to find nothing done at all. He showed up 5 very poor quality bent pipes that were the wrong length and still hasnt given us a price on the side pipe. The bends came from custom chrome and again its custom chrome that seem to be dragging their heels with the side pipe price.
The manifold plate - again was told the custom chrome one didnt fit so he got a local company to make one. This is "out for polishing" so we couldnt see it.
We're going back Wednesday - im going give him a call tomorrow and say if we dont see any progress we're pulling the plug and taking the car home again. The really is very far from what i would call good service!

Patrick,
how dissappointing.
I'd get a fixed price and some kind of agreement on what it is going to look like when finished, or you might end up with a large bill?
I thought you had a quote from Custom Chrome?

Good point, for some reason he's say CC wont quote him on the side pipe for whatever reason and thats stopping him giving me the final price.
I've got the name of his contact at cc so will be have chat with them.

Had a chat with the MD of custom chrome today, nice chap and he's promised to get to the bottom of it. Sounds like the bends were not fromo custom chrome. Apprently they've not had any spec through get for the side pipe that he new of so not sure whats going on now. I'm going to wait and see what happens on Monday.
