Default G46 builds

I'm chopping this out from the "What kit number are you" thread so that you G46 types have someone of your own to call home.

Similar to that other thread, it seemed sensible to start a list of all known G46 owners/builders.

over to Charman.tech.....

I'll start this off with the ones we already know of, but if one of the G46 types can step up and take over the ongoing admin of this (if you want?) it would be appreciated.

As you can edit your own posts i simply do that for the other thread, you can just re-edit your above post and add to it over time to keep things simple and easy

Have fun.

Hi,

mine arrived 22nd Jan, so that could make me no.3.

Planned final spec:

Nissan SR20 engine/ ford type 9 5 spd gearbox
MG Midget front screen, hoodframe, hood, quarterlights and side windows.
New petrol tank to be made to fit space behind passenger allowing a deeper boot for luggage.

Progress so far:

Chassis repaired and galvanised.
Front suspension overhauled/ painted/ new bushes etc.
Engine/gearbox adapter plate made.
Engine mounts made and engine/gearbox fitted to chassis.
Rear axle rebuild underway.
Lengthened steering column made.

next steps

Finish axle. Needs some welding at lower shock absorber mounts.
Fit axle, brake pipes, get propshaft modified.
Fit body!

Andrew-have you offered up the midget screen to the body yet and do you have pics? I want a full size screen on my g46 so am looking for donor bits. I still want the d type wrap around side screens though. Look at the Eagle Speedster e type for the effect I am aiming for

Is that a normally aspirated 140bhp engine or the 200bhp+ DET Turbo? Should be interesting with the former and terrifying with the latter!

Where'd you get the chassis galvanised - local business or do you have access to specialist equipment?

Hi wca,

I briefly offered up the screen to the body and it seemed about the correct width to suit the top edge of the doors which are set in quite a way from the outer edge of the body. Since then the body has been hanging from the garage ceiling while I have been getting the chassis onto its wheels. The top of the body where the screen is to fit will need a lot of remoulding work as I want the screen pillars immediately in front of the door aperture and the screen is fairly straight. Once I have made some progress I will start a thread with pics.

Hi mt

The engine is out of a low mileage 2.0 eGt and is the 140ish bhp multipoint injection version. I haven't decided whether to use the original throttle body set up or splash out on a Canems version that will get rid of a lot of underbonnet clutter and allow better mapping. I may be getting my hands on a slide throttle body so decent power increases might be on the cards.

I got the galvanising done at Birtley Galvanising near Chester-Le-Street, County Durham. The shotblasting and galvanising came to about £120 approx 5 years ago when I was still going to rebuild the scimitar. The strange hand of fate persuaded me to lose interest and wait for Gary to start the G46 project!

What a fortuitous happenstance, not continuing with the scimitar project until Gary's Orca hove into view.

The shot blasting and galvanising sounds like a bargain - I spent a lot more than that doing it myself with hobby kit and Hammerite.

Hi Andrewhush,

...any update since your last posting in March?

(I am currently grappling with the great 'windscreen v deflector v aero screen' debate and seeking info/photos that might help my decision).

Nope, the body is still hovering below the ceiling. I have sorted out all of the engine and ecu wiring and should be able to have a go at starting my engine soon. Just got to sort out a temporary cooling system and exhaust using the old nissan bits. As soon as I can I will offer up the windscreen and doors to the body and post some pics. Have you got a body kit already?

Not yet - I'm cheating. I commissioned Gary to produce a body and fit it to my Scimitar which is currently WIP at Poole. Once the vehicle is back I will then be in a position to complete the build. It's a bit difficult trying to decide what might or might not work when I have the Car Builders Solutions manual in front of me and the car 100 miles away.

Spoke to a nice chap at Stoneleigh on Sunday with a boat tailed NG. He'd made up patterns from MDF for his windscreen supports (6'' deflector really) then had them cast in nickel bronze (or something similar) then chromed. It worked but looked a bit Art Deco and I'm not sure it suited the car, but it's his taste of course.

I've decided to stay traditional to the 50's, so no LED's and a simple wrap round screen with a centre mirror/pillar screen support if its too floppy.

Good luck with the engine test.

Maybe a different thread / section is needed - I strayed off topic a bit...

Hi all - noobie on here and unlikely to find time to build another kit this decade (built an early a Domino Pimlico Premier in the late 80s) but WCA & Nike55 will know me from Scimitarweb - where we're lucky enough to have Micha posting

As an ex-registrar of all models of GTE (SE5, 5a, 6, 6a, 6b & Middlebridge) I know how hard it is to collate this information after the fact versus recording it while the manufacturer is still in business

So, this is what I can glean from the site:

#01. unfinished factory demonstrator "LOU" (sold for £8600 on 20 Mar 13)
#02. “Charman.tech” V8
#03. “Andrew Hush” galv chassis, Nissan SR20 engine with type 9 box
#04. HGU421J (formerly my car - AAA186J) “Nike55” to Tribute for build
#05. SOK383H "WCA" SOK sold to Micky1mo, MOTd and for sale again here
#06. AON577K “House Martin” here
#07. "Welsh 46r"

the ad for #01 says that 8 bodies have been produced?

and finally, could I ask for chassis and registration numbers for our current registrar (Jim - se5.registrar@rssoc.co.uk or PM me) to keep our database up to date.

many thanks

Jim

Jim, I will get #01 details to you tomorrow. Also for any future G46 kits that are sold I will ask for the details and pass those on to you whenever possible.

Good luck with Micha, hes a real joy!

Another kit went to "Welsh 46r" who you can contact through this forum. The last one I know nothing about, it was sold before I took over the G46 project.

Mine is almost sold. I have te deposit, just awaiting the rest of the cash and collection. Snapping my foot off caused the sale as I can no longer properly enjoy manual gear boxed cars.

It should be going to another enthusiast who I will let introduce himself.

I bought the original car from Nical Engineering and Nick who runs it has some Scimis in his possession including a V8 conversion. If he isn't already on you contact list he might be worth Googling and contacting
