Later on Friday
I thank you all for your input, and I do consider all your options.
Putting the hinges on the rear and making the doors into suicide doors, is a good idea, but like they say on "Catchphrase" sorry, its the wrong one!
Re-doing the door hinges WCA, is so "last week"
So, on with the cunning plan..........
I will go ahead with what was my first gut feeling when I realised with horror that I had screwed up badly, which is ------quarter lights.
Quarter lights seem to have put some people off a bit, but not me.
I see them as my salvation, and my reasonably easy way out of this mess I'm in.
I will make them in stainless steel, so they look like chrome, they will match the rest of the exterior trim, and be elegant and hopefully look the part and look as though they should be there.
I have made a mock up to give myself an idea of what to aim for, and here it is:
Watcha think? Look okay?

Lower the car even more, fix the doors and just step over them to get in?
The hassle I had with the doors on my G46 build was what inpired me to keep the BMW doors on the Z300s

If it was just the doors WCA I would, but stepping over the side windows as well, I'd need to be 8 feet tall, then I'd not fit in the car anyway!

Do you have any pics of your G46 completed?
Would be nice to see if you have. I'm sure they would be popular with all on the forum.

Very few people will know what you car is " supposed" to look like.
So I think it will look great, as the overall first impression will be stunning.
Or as a small boy said when I was working on mine the other day...
"That car is EPIC!"
And you've seen the state of mine at the moment.
By the time you car is on the road it will always turn heads.
Good luck, Paul.

Hopefully restores some of my credibility. I know I man a keyboard for a job and am learning everything as I go but I was pleased of the results.
I took a car parked under a tree in 1985 as a non runner and got it working. Engine stripped down and rebuilt and fired up with petrol in one end and exhaust smoke out the other.
It was bloody mot passed a month after I sold it!
I spent a lot of time aand learned a lot during that build. If I hadn't snapped my foot off that would be what I am driving now.

I wondered why you'd had got rid of such a nice car, of course that's why it has to be auto's. What a shame!

Actually I cheated and in true Blue Peter style "Copy & Pasted" from one I'd prepared earlier for the "Useful Info" sticky next door.

Scottie - As I dug out the link above I noticed the photo from Andrew Rush's G-46 build where he was mocking up the soft top frame work.
So you might find that an interesting read too.
Cheers, Paul.

Morning Scottie as an alternative to a fixed quarter light had you considered a hinged quarter light as per AC Cobra and turning the quarter light into a feature? Geoff .

Hi Geoff, yes I had actually, but it would not be able to go inward due to the body shape, and if it opened outward, we would be back to the " I must remember to shut the quarter light before I open the door, or it will snap off syndrome"
When the door opens, the front edge of the window "shaves" forward missing the windscreen by around 1 to 2 inches, which is why I shelved that idea.
It is difficult for all the people out there who have not seen the door open and close, to imagine the tight tolerances that I am faced with, which really limits my scope in design!
Paul, thanks for the link, I will check it out later.

its an idea from a absolute novice so understand it probably isn't that simple
