iva. how
now then, i have aquired a mk2 granada and am planning use this as a base for a car, i've looked on the site that tells you about point scoring and how to keep the reg number of the doner but i'm going to fall short on points, i'm planning on using the engine, gearbox, rear diff, drive shafts and hubs.
the granada has a leaking power steering rack which i wont be using therefore losing 2 points, so the question is how do the testers know where which parts have come from where?

Not sure on the IVA form, but certainly on the SVA form, you listed which componemts came from your donor car. This then gets checked on the day of the test. EG engine number, gearbox etc.

On my IVA day the only item checked by VOSA was the engine number, they couldn't care less about the other components. They only wanted the engine number so they could perform the appropriate age related emissions test.
DVLA should use the scoring to determine the registration number. All brand new - current reg no., one donor - age related, otherwise "Q"
But DVLA Bristol only checked the vehicle's VIN. I had to insist that I qualified for an age related plate but they did not check anything.
I'm not sure that steering rack, gearbox and suspension can be proved to have come from a single car anyway.

I think it depends mainly on what you are doing about the chassis. You've probably already looked at this, which applies for rebuilt vehicles and kit cars:

Because the Marlin sportster uses a new chassis, and the engine, gearbox, rear diff and hubs from the donor, it should qualify for an age-related plate, and you don't have to worry about the points system. If on the other hand you are 'radically re-building' your Granada, then this applies:

My IVA experience was similar to Chris' - they only wanted to know the age of the engine to use the correct emissions test, and seemed quite happy to take my word for it about where the other parts had come from.

cheers chaps, i will be building the chassis my self from own design and get worryed when i read this;
A vehicle will retain its donor registration mark if either the original unmodified chassis or unaltered monocoque bodyshell and two other major components are used. If a new monocoque bodyshell or chassis from a specialist kit manufacturer is used (or an altered chassis or bodyshell from an existing vehicle) together with two major components from a donor vehicle, an age related mark will be assigned. The mark will be based on the age of the donor vehicle. An IVA, ESVA, SVA or MSVA test will be required to register the vehicle
as it says chassis from a "specialist kit manufacturer", and this is not me.
